Preparticipation predictors for championship injury and illness: cohort study at the Beijing 2015 International Association of Athletics Federations World Championships.
CONCLUSIONS: Analyses of preparticipation predictors of injury and illness at a major Athletics championship suggest that endurance athletes require particular clinical attention. Preparticipation symptoms causing anxiety are interesting predictors for in-championship health problems. PMID: 27827793 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Association of psychological variables and outcome in tendinopathy: a systematic review.
CONCLUSIONS: Tendinopathy requires an individualised approach to management. Clinicians should consider using validated screening tools for the presence of psychological variables as a part of their holistic management. PMID: 27852585 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

A study on level of physical activity, depression, anxiety and stress symptoms among adolescents.
CONCLUSIONS: This study provides some evidence among school-going adolescents related to anxiety and stress symptoms and low physical activities. Further studies are needed to show the protection effects of higher physical activity for depression, anxiety and stress symptoms in adolescents. PMID: 28004901 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Psychological readiness to return to sport: three key elements to help the practitioner decide whether the athlete is REALLY ready?
Return to sport (RTS) outcomes after severe injury are consistently poor.1 2 Psychological factors are important influences on returning to sport3 yet what it means to be psychologically ready to RTS is unclear.4 Rarely will an athlete be held back from RTS because he/she is not psychologically ready to return. Psychological factors correlate with injury occurrence,5 therefore these factors should be offered greater weighting in RTS decision-making. Characteristics of an athlete who is psychologically ready to RTS are multifaceted and include, among others: realistic expectations, high levels of self-efficacy and low level...

Anxiety, depression and perceived sporting performance among professional cricket players.
CONCLUSIONS: Undiagnosed anxiety and depression may exist in professional cricket teams and as such better screening is required. The majority of players feel some level of stress and tension are beneficial for their performance, with a slight amount being the most common perceived optimum. Assessment of endpoint criteria and perceived barriers during maximal cardiorespiratory fitness testing among pregnant women.
CONCLUSIONS: Our data provide preliminary evidence that secondary criteria may need to be adjusted for pregnant women. Additionally, physical and emotional barriers may be enhanced by pregnancy (e.g. pain, discomfort, anxiety, health concerns), and may limit the performance of pregnant women during maximal exercise. Depression and anxiety symptoms in 17 teams of female football players including 10 German first league teams.
CONCLUSION: The prevalence of depression and generalised anxiety symptoms in elite football players is influenced by personal and sport-specific variables. It is important to raise awareness of athletes' mental health problems in coaches and team physicians, to reduce stigma and to provide low-threshold treatment. Walking on sunshine: scoping review of the evidence for walking and mental health.
CONCLUSION: The evidence base that suggests walking benefits mental health is growing, but remains fragmented and incomplete for some important outcomes. Policy and national guidelines should promote the known mental health benefits of increased walking and future research should directly address the gaps we have identified. Combined education and patient-led goal setting intervention reduced chronic low back pain disability and intensity at 12 months: a randomised controlled trial.
CONCLUSION: A patient-led goal setting intervention was significantly more effective than advice to exercise for improving outcomes in disability, pain intensity, quality of life, self-efficacy and kinesiophobia in chronic LBP. These improvements were maintained at 12 months. Smaller effects were seen in measures of depression, anxiety and stress. TRIAL REGISTRATION NUMBER: ACTRN12614000830695. Sport-related Concussion Clinical Profiles: Clinical Characteristics, Targeted Treatments, and Preliminary Evidence
Sport-related concussion (SRC) is a heterogeneous injury that involves varied symptoms and impairment that presents a significant clinical challenge to sports medicine professionals. In response to this challenge, clinical researchers have proposed clinical profiles or subtype models for assessing and treating athletes with SRC. One such model emphasizes five concussion clinical profiles including cognitive/fatigue, vestibular, ocular, migraine, and anxiety/mood. Sleep is a common modifier that co-occurs across these clinical profiles. A combination of medical history, risk factors, injury information, clinical characteris...

Mental health symptoms and disorders in Paralympic athletes: a narrative review.
CONCLUSION: Most of the studies reviewed are small in scale, and there are almost no comparative data on Paralympic versus Olympic athletes. There is a paucity of data on rates of mental health symptoms and disorders in this population and the factors that might contribute to poor mental health among elite athletes with disabilities. We propose that stereotypes about people with disabilities-and the disability rights movement's rightful reaction to these stereotypes-have created barriers to mental health research among Paralympic athletes. There is a need for enquiry into the differential stressors experienced by Paralympi...
