Migraine in the context of chronic primary pain, chronic overlapping pain disorders, and functional somatic disorders: A narrative review
CONCLUSIONS: Migraine and also other primary headache disorders should be seen as particular phenotypes within a broader spectrum of symptom perception and processing disorders that require integrative diagnostics and treatment. A harmonization of classifications and better interdisciplinary collaboration are desirable.PMID:36373821 | DOI:10.1111/head.14419

Sedentary time is associated with depressive symptoms and state anxiety in women with fibromyalgia. Could physical activity and fitness modify this association? The al- Ándalus project
CONCLUSIONS: Higher levels of total and prolonged ST are associated with greater depressive symptoms and state anxiety in women with fibromyalgia. MVPA did not modify these associations, although physical fitness could play a protective role specially for state anxiety.IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATIONReducing sedentary time and avoiding its accumulation in prolonged periods could potentially reduce depressive symptoms and state anxiety in fibromyalgia.Higher sedentary time is associated with more severe depressive symptoms even in patients who engage in moderate-to-vigorous physical activity.Higher levels of physical fitnes...

Sound-Induced Flash Illusions Support Cortex Hyperexcitability in Fibromyalgia
CONCLUSION: Results from this study confirm that patients with FM have a VCH suggesting that the pathological changes in cortical excitability might have important roles in the pathophysiology of FM. SIFI represents a noninvasive behavioral tool for the exploration of cross-sensory functional interplay.PMID:36199588 | PMC:PMC9527419 | DOI:10.1155/2022/7355102

Effect of intramuscular depot betamethasone injection in patients with fibromyalgia and elevated C-reactive protein levels
Fibromyalgia is characterized by diffuse musculoskeletal pain and fatigue. There are limited data about systemic steroid treatment of patients with fibromyalgia in the English literature. Patients with fibromyalgia with ongoing diffuse musculoskeletal pain despite standard treatment, extreme fatigue and elevated C-reactive protein (CRP) levels without evidence of synovitis, or other source of inflammation, were asked to participate in our study. After consent, demographic, clinical and laboratory parameters in addition to body mass index were documented. These patients were interviewed and asked to answer the Revised Fibro...

Are OMERACT recommendations followed in clinical trials on fibromyalgia? A systematic review of patient-reported outcomes and their measures
ConclusionThe majority of trials covered most OMERACT domains or generic PROMIS health domains. There was, however, great variability in the instruments used to assess the domains, which points at a limited degree of standardization in the field.
