Cognitive impairment of MRL mice is related to NMDA receptor-mediated inflammatory response and production of adhesion molecules in MRL/lpr mice-derived micro-vascular endothelial cells
In conclusion, cognitive impairment of MRL mice might be associated with NMDA receptor-mediated inflammatory response and production of adhesion molecules in MRL/lpr mice-derived MVECs.PMID:37114958 | DOI:10.5114/fn.2023.125903

Active music therapy improves cognition and behaviour in chronic vascular encephalopathy: A case report.
CONCLUSIONS: In selected patients with VCI-ND, a well-structured AMT intervention added to standard therapy may contribute in determining a stable improvement of cognitive and psycho-behavioural aspects. Controlled studies are needed to confirm these promising results. PMID: 24559817 [PubMed - in process]

Task relevance of emotional information affects anxiety-linked attention bias in visual search.
Abstract Task relevance affects emotional attention in healthy individuals. Here, we investigate whether the association between anxiety and attention bias is affected by the task relevance of emotion during an attention task. Participants completed two visual search tasks. In the emotion-irrelevant task, participants were asked to indicate whether a discrepant face in a crowd of neutral, middle-aged faces was old or young. Irrelevant to the task, target faces displayed angry, happy, or neutral expressions. In the emotion-relevant task, participants were asked to indicate whether a discrepant face in a crowd of mi...

Visual search performance in infants associates with later ASD diagnosis
Publication date: Available online 30 September 2016 Source:Developmental Cognitive Neuroscience Author(s): H.M Cheung, R. Bedford, M.H Johnson, T. Charman, T. Gliga An enhanced ability to detect visual targets amongst distractors, known as visual search (VS), has often been documented in Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). Yet, it is unclear when this behaviour emerges in development and if it is specific to ASD. We followed up infants at high and low familial risk for ASD to investigate how early VS abilities links to later ASD diagnosis, the potential underlying mechanisms of this association and the specificity of superi...

Patients experiences of Negative Pressure Wound Therapy at home for the treatment of Deep Perivascular Groin Infection after Vascular Surgery
ConclusionsSeveral benefits of negative pressure wound therapy at home were expressed. However, unnecessary stress and anxiety was experienced due to a lack of information on the treatment and instruction concerning the equipment. Adequate information and education must therefore be provided to facilitate the transition from a patient to a person with self‐care competence and ability to manage this treatment at home. Relevance to clinical practiceThe findings revealed a need for more support and knowledge in their transition from hospital care to home care with negative pressure wound therapy. Routines must be establishe...

Online visual search attentional bias modification for adolescents with heightened anxiety and depressive symptoms: A randomized controlled trial.
Abstract Anxiety and depression, which are highly prevalent in adolescence, are both characterized by a negative attentional bias. As Attentional Bias Modification (ABM) can reduce such a bias, and might also affect emotional reactivity, it could be a promising early intervention. However, a growing number of studies also report comparable improvements in both active and placebo groups. The current study investigated the effects of eight online sessions of visual search (VS) ABM compared to both a VS placebo-training and a no-training control group in adolescents with heightened symptoms of anxiety and/or depressi...

‘I Just Hope Everyone Survived.’ Search-and-Rescue Begins in Florida Keys
(MIAMI) — Authorities sent an aircraft carrier and other Navy ships to the Florida Keys to help with search-and-rescue operations Monday as a flyover of the hurricane-battered islands yielded what the governor said were scenes of devastation. “My heart goes out to the people in the Keys,” Gov. Rick Scott said. He added: “I just hope everyone survived.” He said boats were cast ashore, water, sewer and power were knocked out, and “I don’t think I saw one trailer park where almost everything wasn’t overturned.” The scale of the damage inflicted by Irma began to come into f...

The Search for a Subtype-Selective PET Imaging Agent for the GABAA Receptor Complex: Evaluation of the Radiotracer (11)CADO in Nonhuman Primates.
In conclusion, [(11)C]ADO was demonstrated to be a specific radiotracer for the GABAA receptors with several favorable properties: high brain uptake, fast tissue kinetics, and high levels of specific binding in nonhuman primates. However, subtype selectivity in vivo is not obvious for the radiotracer, and thus, the search for subtype-selective GABAA radiotracers continues. PMID: 28929924 [PubMed - in process]

‘Please take good care of our baby sister’: Help for Addison’s hemangioma
Most parents dress their baby girls in headbands for fun. But for Addison Quandt, these accessories, adorned with bows and flowers, weren’t a frivolous fashion statement. Instead, they helped hold in place the gauze that covered a large hemangioma on the back of her neck. “People always said what a fashionable baby she was,” says her mom, Dianne. “If they only knew.” Addison was born with four hemangiomas, common benign vascular tumors that typically appear as red birthmarks within a week or two of birth. In many cases, they don’t cause problems and clear up without treatment. But not only weren’t Addison’s...

The effect of anxiety on anticipation, allocation of attentional resources, and visual search behaviours.
In this study, we examine how skill level influences the ability to mediate the effects of anxiety on anticipation performance and the capacity to allocate attentional resources to concurrent tasks. We use a counterbalanced, repeated measures design that required expert and novice badminton players to complete a film-based anticipation test in which they predicted serve direction under high- and low-anxiety conditions. On selected trials, participants completed an auditory secondary task. Visual search data were recorded and the Mental Readiness Form v-3 was used to measure cognitive anxiety, somatic anxiety and self-confi...

Ankylosing spondylitis, chronic fatigue and depression improved after stromal vascular fraction treatment for osteoarthritis: a case report
ConclusionsOur patient showed dramatic improvements to her quality of life and symptoms of osteoarthritis were reduced. Interestingly, along with improvements in her knee and hips her other comorbidities such as ankylosing spondylitis, depression, anxiety, and fatigue exhibited marked improvement. She ceased the use of a wheelchair and walking support and, with increased mobility, had gained independence. These findings are suggestive of the therapeutic effects of stromal vascular fraction.
