High plasma soluble prorenin receptor (sPRR) is associated with vascular damage in male but not female mice fed a high fat diet
Am J Physiol Heart Circ Physiol. 2023 Mar 17. doi: 10.1152/ajpheart.00638.2022. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPlasma soluble prorenin receptor (sPRR) displays sexual dimorphism and is higher in women with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). However, the contribution of plasma sPRR to the development of vascular complications in T2DM remains unclear. We investigated if plasma sPRR contributes to sex differences in the activation of the systemic renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS) and vascular damage in a model of high-fat diet (HFD)-induced T2DM. Male and female C57BL/6J mice were fed either a normal fat diet (NFD) or ...

SGLT2 inhibitor canagliflozin alleviates vascular calcification through suppression of NLRP3 inflammasome
CONCLUSIONS: Our study for the first time demonstrates that CANA exerts a protective effect on vascular calcification at least partially via suppressing NLRP3 signaling pathway. Therefore, supplementation of CANA as well as inhibition of NLRP3 inflammasome presents a potential therapy for vascular calcification.PMID:37523743 | DOI:10.1093/cvr/cvad119

Translating search strategies (updated)
This is an update of a post from November 2015.If you are doing a systematic review, you will need to run the same search in more than one database.I use the term " translation " for the process of modifying a search so that it works in another database. It is important to run the same search in all databases. So, if you have a search that works in Ovid Medline, what do you need to change to make it work in another database like PsycINFO or Embase?  Those other databases have different features or functionality. There are three areas where translation is necessary, once you have finalised your strategy:Search syntax – ...

More Maternal Vascular Malperfusion and Chorioamnionitis in Placentas After Expectant Management vs. Immediate Delivery in Fetal Growth Restriction at (Near) Term: A Further Analysis of the DIGITAT Trial
Conclusion: Expectant management of late FGR is associated with increased maternal vascular malperfusion and chorioamnionitis. This may have implications for fetal and neonatal outcome, such as programming in the developing child influencing health outcomes later in life. Introduction Fetal growth restriction (FGR) is a condition in pregnancy in which the fetus fails to reach its growth potential. FGR affects up to 15% of all pregnancies (1, 2) and is not only associated with mortality, but also with long term morbidity (3–5). Appropriate placental nutrient and oxygen supply is essential for normal fetal gr...

Disturbed sleep quality and architecture in adolescents with type 1 diabetes mellitus: relation to glycemic control, vascular complications and insulin sensitivity
CONCLUSION: Poor sleep quality and architecture among adolescents with T1D are associated with impaired glycemic control, insulin resistance and micro-vascular complications.PMID:33745994 | DOI:10.1016/j.diabres.2021.108774

Retinal vascular geometry detection as a biomarker in diabetes mellitus
CONCLUSIONS: We demonstrated the relationship between retinal vascular geometry and the process in DM patients, showing that Dbox, D0, dave, and τn may be indicators of morphological changes in retinal vessels in DM patients and can be early biomarkers of DR.PMID:34284606 | DOI:10.1177/11206721211033488

CTRP3 is a coronary artery calcification biomarker and protects against vascular calcification by inhibiting β-catenin nuclear translocation to prevent vascular smooth muscle cell osteogenic differentiation
CONCLUSIONS: CTRP3 may serve as a valuable screening biomarker and a novel therapeutic target in CAC, particularly in diabetes patients.PMID:34774387 | DOI:10.1016/j.jjcc.2021.10.018
