Visual snow syndrome, the spectrum of perceptual disorders, and migraine as a common risk factor: A narrative review
CONCLUSION: VSS, PPPD, fibromyalgia, and chronic tinnitus might lie on a spectrum of perceptual disorders with similar pathophysiological mechanisms and the common risk factor migraine. Understanding the underlying network disturbances might give insights into how to improve these currently very difficult to treat conditions.PMID:34570907 | DOI:10.1111/head.14213

Characterising DSCATT: A case series of Australian patients with debilitating symptom complexes attributed to ticks
CONCLUSION: This is the first case series of patients with Debilitating Symptom Complexes Attributed to Ticks. They had high rates of other medically unexplained syndromes, and no evidence of acute Lyme disease, or any common organic disease process. Debilitating Symptom Complexes Attributed to Ticks remains medically unexplained, and may therefore be due to an as yet unidentified cause, or may be considered a medically unexplained syndrome similar to conditions such as chronic fatigue syndrome.PMID:34465249 | DOI:10.1177/00048674211043788

Small Fiber Polyneuropathy Is Associated With Non–Bladder-Centric Interstitial Cystitis/Bladder Pain Syndrome Patients
Conclusions In this pilot study, SFPN was significantly more common in non–bladder-centric IC/BPS, that is, those patients who also reported greater prevalence of NUS, including fibromyalgia, migraines, anxiety/panic disorders, allergies, and asthma. These findings suggest that SFPN may have an etiologic role in a larger, systemic pain syndrome and should be explored further.

This disparity further poses a clinical challenge, given that chronic pain can often be discordant or undetected with standard RA-specific surveillance strategies, including serological markers and imaging studies. ...

Central Sensitization Symptom Severity and Patient-Provider Relationships in a Community Setting
CONCLUSION: Patients with CSS spectrum disorders experience frequent pain and decreased quality of life. A high degree of CSS symptom severity is associated with negative experiences with healthcare providers, which deters the establishment of a positive provider-patient relationship. Further research is needed to help understand symptom severity in CSS and harness the power of the therapeutic alliance as a treatment modality.PMID:34235997 | DOI:10.1177/21501327211031767
