Genome-Wide Association Study and Identification of a Protective Missense Variant on Lipoprotein(a) Concentration: Protective Missense Variant on Lipoprotein(a) Concentration
CONCLUSIONS: This study supports an LDL cholesterol-independent causal link between Lp(a) and CAD. A rare missense variant in the LPA gene locus appears to be protective in people with the Lp(a) increasing variant of rs10455872. In the search for therapeutic targets of Lp(a), future work should focus on understanding the functional consequences of this missense variant.PMID:33730874 | DOI:10.1161/ATVBAHA.120.315300

Brain-Derived Neurotropic Factor, Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor and Matrix Metalloproteinases as Markers of Metabolic Status in Non-Growth Hormone-Treated Girls With Turner Syndrome
ConclusionThe higher concentrations of BDNF and lower of MMP-2 found in girls with TS without MetS compared to healthy girls with short stature, could have a major impact on the future “natural” development of the metabolic status. Our findings need further studies.

Novel insights into modifiable risk factors for arteriovenous fistula failure and the importance of CKD lipid profile: A meta-analysis
CONCLUSION: Our analysis indicates that the AVF failure may be related to the increase of TC/LDL-C and the decrease of HDL-C. Although current guidelines do not consider intensive lipid-lowering therapy as necessary in patients undergoing HD, our research indicates that patients with AVF undergoing HD may need regular TC/LDL-C-lowering therapy to prevent AVF failure. However, this issue still needs well designed prospective trials.PMID:36951426 | DOI:10.1177/11297298221115557

Prevalence of Vascular Calcification in Chronic Kidney Disease Stage 4 and 5 Patients and its Correlation with Inflammatory Markers of Atherosclerosis
This study evaluated the prevalence of vascular calcification in Indian patients with CKD stages 4 and 5. This was a prospective study conducted between January 2011 and June 2012. CKD stage 4 and 5 patients of either sex aged >18 years were screened for aortic vascular calcification using digital X-ray lumbar spine and multislice computed tomography (CT) scan. In addition, details of inflammatory markers [high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) and interleukin (IL-6)] were also collected. A total of 150 patients (stage 4, n = 98; stage 5, n = 56) were screened for vascular calcification, and the mean age was 56.56...
