A new case definition of Neuro-Inflammatory and Oxidative Fatigue (NIOF), a neuroprogressive disorder, formerly known as chronic fatigue syndrome or Myalgic Encephalomyelitis: results of multivariate pattern recognition methods and external validation by neuro-immune biomarkers.
Authors: Maes M Abstract BACKGROUND: Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) or Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME) is characterized by neuro-psychiatric (e.g. depression, irritability, sleep disorders, autonomic symptoms and neurocognitive defects) and physio-somatic (fatigue, a flu-like malaise, hyperalgesia, irritable bowel, muscle pain and tension) symptoms. New ME/CFS case definitions based on consensus criteria among experts are largely inadequate, e.g. those of the US Institute of Medicine . OBJECTIVES: The aim of the present study was to delineate a new case definition of ME/CFS based on pattern recognition methods a...

Neuro-Ophthalmic Phenotype of OPA3
Conclusions: This study compiled data regarding neuro-ophthalmic manifestation of OPA 3 Type III patients. Contrary to established literature, poor vision was the presenting symptom in only 50% of our patients. This is the first report of OCT findings in 3MGA patients. The results demonstrated diffused thinning of the RNFL and ganglion cell complex-IPL with correlation to VA, which is in contrast to OPA1 patients in whom the most severe thinning is at the level of the papillomacular bundle. Average retinal thinning was identified at second and third decades of life, possibly resulting from early ganglion cell loss. The...

Pall-02. the impact and value of integrating palliative care into a neuro-oncology clinic
CONCLUSIONS:This study suggests that a PCP in neuro-oncology can produce a high rate of establishing goals of care. A PCP can significantly reduce the cost of care in a value based model. Further study on the impact of palliative care in neuro-oncology seems warranted.

Stockmeier Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) is a common psychiatric disorder for which available medications are often not effective. The high prevalence of MDD and modest response to existing therapies compels efforts to better understand and treat the disorder. Decreased hippocampal volume with increasing duration of d...

Pt-06 * randomized trial of high-precision conformal radiation therapy compared to conventional radiotherapy in preservation of long-term neuro-cognitive outcomes in young patients with progressive or residual benign/low-grade brain tumors
CONCLUSIONS: We demonstrate high-precision conformal radiotherapy superior to conventional radiotherapy in preservation of neuropsychological functions in young patients with benign/low grade brain tumors. This is among few trials generating evidence for use of modern conformal RT from an appropriately-powered trial with clinically relevant endpoints and act as suitable benchmark for testing newer RT- technologies.

Ncog-13. the impact of neuro-oncology patients neuropsychological function on family caregivers emotional health
CONCLUSIONS:Results suggest that verbal learning and general memory, as well as mental and motor speed are important domains in determining caregivers’ emotional health. Interventions to help caregivers cope with patient deficits in these areas have the potential to improve caregivers’ emotional health.

Qlif-25. physical health risks in neuro-oncology family caregivers
CONCLUSIONS:Findings suggest that poor emotional health during caregiving is associated with markers of risk for cardiovascular disease. Clinically, interventions to address emotional health in caregivers should be implemented at the time of diagnosis. Future studies are needed to determine how these relationships change throughout the care situation, particularly given the strong link between CRP and cardiovascular health.

Hypocretin Deficiency Associated with Narcolepsy Type 1 and Central Hypoventilation Syndrome in Neurosarcoidosis of the Hypothalamus
We report a case of a 53-year-old man presenting with depressed alertness and severe excessive sleepiness in the setting of neurosarcoidosis. Neuroimaging demonstrated hypothalamic destruction due to sarcoidosis with a CSF hypocretin level of 0 pg/mL. The patient also experienced respiratory depression that presumably resulted from hypocretin-mediated hypothalamic dysfunction as a result of extensive diencephalic injury. This is a novel case, demonstrating both hypocretin deficiency syndrome, as well as respiratory dysfunction from destruction of hypocretin neurons and extensive destruction of key diencephalic structures s...

IJERPH, Vol. 19, Pages 13096: Efficacy of Neuro-Feedback Training for PTSD Symptoms: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
This study conducted a meta-analysis of neuro-feedback training for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms to evaluate the effects of functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) and electroencephalogram (EEG)-based neuro-feedback training. A search of PubMed, the Cochrane Library, Web of Science, Science Direct, and ClinicalTrials.gov was conducted from January 2011 to December 2021. The studies’ quality was assessed using the Cochrane risk of bias tool and publication bias was assessed by Egger’s regression test. Seven studies that met the inclusion criteria were used for the systemati...

The influence of the serotonin transporter gene 5-HTTLPR polymorphism on suicidal behaviors: a meta-analysis
Publication date: Available online 17 August 2018Source: Progress in Neuro-Psychopharmacology and Biological PsychiatryAuthor(s): Giuseppe Fanelli, Alessandro SerrettiAbstractSuicidal Behavior (SB) is the second leading cause of death among youths worldwide and the tenth among all age groups. Inherited genetic differences have a role in suicidality with heritability ranging from 30 to 55%. The SLC6A4 5-HTTLPR gene variant has been largely investigated for association with SB, with controversial results. In this work, we sought to determine whether the results of previous meta-analyses were confirmed or modified subsequent t...

Resting State Vagal Tone in Borderline Personality Disorder: A Meta-Analysis
Publication date: Available online 11 July 2015 Source:Progress in Neuro-Psychopharmacology and Biological Psychiatry Author(s): Julian Koenig , Andrew H. Kemp , Nicole Feeling , Julian F. Thayer , Michael Kaess Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) is the most common personality disorder in clinical settings. It is characterized by negative affectivity, emotional liability, anxiety, depression, as well as disinhibition (i.e., impulsivity and risk taking), all of which have been linked to lower resting state vagal tone, which may be indexed by vagally-mediated heart rate variability (vmHRV). Here, we aimed to quantify th...
