Prescription analgesic medication use among osteoarthritis patients
CONCLUSION: The use of gabapentinoid increased rapidly from recent decade, while opioids use did not decrease. The long-term excessive use of opioids was also a serious problem for OA pain control. More improvements such as focusing more on healthcare education and paying more attention on non-pharmacotherapy and the psychological situation of patients are needed.PMID:37724650 | DOI:10.1177/10225536231202835

The Impacts of Fecal Microbiota Transplantation from Same Sex on the Symptoms of Ulcerative Colitis Patients
Pol J Microbiol. 2023 Sep 20;72(3):247-268. doi: 10.33073/pjm-2023-025. eCollection 2023 Sep 1.ABSTRACTWe aimed to compare the clinical efficacy of fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) from the same sex on ulcerative colitis (UC) patients. A total of 272 UC patients were selected in the prospective clinical study, which incorporated four distinct groups, each comprising male and female patients, who were either receiving FMT or placebo, respectively. FMT was performed by sending the gut microbiota of healthy female or male adolescents to the same gender patients via gastroscope three times (one time/three weeks), and a p...

The association between labour epidural analgesia and postpartum depression in primiparous patients: a historical cohort study
CONCLUSION: This historical cohort study found an association between LEA and PPD among primiparous patients who subsequently had a second pregnancy in the same province. The findings call into question the hypothesis that LEA decreases the risk for PPD and further illustrates the complexities of PPD.PMID:37726496 | DOI:10.1007/s12630-023-02568-2

Metalloproteinase-2 in failed back surgery syndrome caused by epidural fibrosis: can it play a role in persistent pain?
ConclusionResults indicate the presence of a contribution of MMP-2 and TIMP-2 in DH and FBSS. Unchanged activity of MMP-2 can indicate an insufficiency in the MMP-2 repair system in both diseases. Lower MMP-2 expression and TIMP-2 concentration in the FBSS group can reflect the chronicity of the process.
