Consistency between the 2016 ACR criteria and a previous diagnosis or hypothesis of fibromyalgia in a specialised referral clinic
CONCLUSIONS: Our findings confirm the inaccuracy of FM diagnoses and highlights the possibility that in everyday clinical practice, they are not always made with reference to very specific criteria and that there is a high risk of classifying non-FM patients as having FM. They also underline the importance of an accurate differential diagnosis. Separately classifying as IFM those patients who do not meet the ACR criteria, but have clinical findings indicating FM, may help to prevent their exclusion from specific treatment(s).PMID:37378481 | DOI:10.55563/clinexprheumatol/mopepq

The Prevalence and Nature of Eating and Swallowing Problems in Adults with Fibromyalgia: A Systematic Review
AbstractFibromyalgia is a complex chronic pain condition characterized by widespread pain, fatigue, cognitive dysfunction, and sleep disturbances. People with fibromyalgia can experience both autonomic and somatic disturbances, cognitive and mental health symptoms, and hypersensitivity to external stimuli. Fibromyalgia often co-occurs with a range of well-researched comorbidities (e.g., temporomandibular disorders, migraine, and irritable bowel syndrome). However, emerging research suggests that individuals with fibromyalgia also often experience eating, drinking, and swallowing problems (e.g., odynophagia, glossodynia, et...

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy for patients with fibromyalgia: a systematic review protocol
This study will systematically and comprehensively assess the effectiveness and safety of HBOT in patients with FM and provide evidence to support its implementation. We hope that the final review will be helpful in supporting the decision-making processes related to treatment programmes. Methods and analysis This protocol is reported in accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic review and Meta-Analysis Protocols guidelines. Ten key databases, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, MEDLINE, EMBASE (Excerpt Medica Database), PsycINFO, CINAHL (Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literat...

Pain Catastrophizing as a Mediator Between Pain Self-Efficacy and Disease Severity in Patients with Fibromyalgia
Fibromyalgia (FM) is characterized by chronic widespread pain, fatigue, sleep disturbances, cognitive impairment, and mood disturbance. Both pain catastrophizing and pain self-efficacy have been found to be mediators of pain treatment effectiveness. However, whether pain catastrophizing mediates the association between pain self-efficacy and FM severity remains unclear.

Cumulative effect of AOC1 gene variants on symptoms and pathological conditions in adult women with fibromyalgia: a pilot study
Conclusion: This study constitutes the first step in investigating associations between fibromyalgia symptoms and candidate variants of the AOC1 gene in DAO enzyme activity. Identification of reduced DAO activity may improve the quality of life and treatment of symptoms in fibromyalgia patients.

Feasibility and Efficacy of Craniosacral Therapy on Sleep Quality in Fibromyalgia Syndrome: a Pre-Post Pilot Trial
CONCLUSION: CST was feasible to deliver with high retention, acceptability, and minimal adverse events. It significantly improved sleep quality in FMS participants along with standard medical care. However, future studies with larger sample sizes and appropriate control groups are required to confirm the findings.PMID:37265538 | PMC:PMC10212567 | DOI:10.3822/ijtmb.v16i2.819

Fibromyalgia in China: sleep quality is related to symptoms, quality of life and especially mental health
CONCLUSIONS: Similar to FM patients in other countries and regions, a decrease in sleep quality is also the core symptom of FM patients in China and is significantly correlated with the severity of pain, fatigue, depression and stress symptoms and reduced quality of life, especially with regard to mental health, suggesting that the treatment of this disease should include sleep disorder interventions.PMID:37246771 | DOI:10.55563/clinexprheumatol/mdk7az
