Association of social isolation and loneliness with chronic low back pain among older adults: A cross-sectional study from Japan Gerontological Evaluation Study (JAGES)
CONCLUSIONS: Lonelier individuals were more likely to experience chronic low back pain, and those with loneliness and social isolation were synergistically more likely for this condition.PMID:37690817 | DOI:10.2188/jea.JE20230127

Axial Neck Pain after Cervical Laminoplasty with Preserving C7 Spinous Process Using C7 Arcocristectomy: A Prospective Study
CONCLUSIONS: C7 arcocristectomy, which preserves the C7 spinous process and posterior structures, is a useful technique for relieving axial neck pain.PMID:37690988 | DOI:10.31616/asj.2022.0433

Androgen deprivation therapy caused a drastic proliferation of B-cell lymphoma with IgG4-related disease in patients with prostate cancer: a case report
CONCLUSION: This case is the first report of clinical significance regarding the crucial role of estrogen and estrogen receptor β in malignant lymphoma in a patient with IgG4-related disease. Our report aims to raise awareness of the need to carefully select treatment options for prostate cancer patients with IgG4-related disease or lymphoma.PMID:37688628 | DOI:10.1007/s00432-023-05292-y

The burden of rheumatoid arthritis and low back pain in North Africa and Middle East from 1990 to 2019: Results from the Global Burden of Disease Study 2019
ConclusionRA still imposes a significant burden in the NAME region as the burden measures have increased from 1990 to 2019. On the other hand, regarding LBP, a decreasing pattern was observed. Differences among the countries and between ages and genders can have implications, and the results of this study may be helpful for policy-makers in the NAME countries.

Significant symptom resolution of spinal lipomatosis with weight loss
Abstract71-year-old male with epidural spinal lipomatosis and spondylolisthesis. Conservative treatment failed, and a spinal fusion and laminectomy were performed. Postoperatively, the patient reported a reduction in pain; however, the pain recurred soon after surgery. After losing 53 pounds with medical management, the patient reported a complete absence of pain. Epidural spinal lipomatosis is a rare condition characterized by the deposition and hypertrophy of adipose tissue in the spinal canal, sometimes resulting in stenosis or compression of the dural sac and nerve roots (Glob Spine J. 2018;9:658). Although several fac...

Ketorolac and bone healing: a review of the basic science and clinical literature
AbstractAlthough the efficacy of ketorolac in pain management and the short duration of use align well with current clinical practice guidelines, few studies have specifically evaluated the impact of ketorolac on bony union after fracture or surgery. The purpose of this study was to review the current basic science and clinical literature on the use of ketorolac for pain management after fracture and surgery and the subsequent risk of delayed union or nonunion. Animal studies demonstrate a dose-dependent risk of delayed union in rodents treated with high doses of ketorolac for 4  weeks or greater; however, with treatment ...

Effect of baseline veterans RAND-12 physical composite score on postoperative patient-reported outcome measures following lateral lumbar interbody fusion
ConclusionPatients undergoing LLIF with worse baseline VR-12 PCS scores reported inferior postoperative physical function, mental health, and disability outcomes. At the final postoperative follow-up, magnitude of postoperative improvement and MCID achievement did not significantly differ. Baseline VR-12 PCS scores may indicate inferior postoperative clinical outcomes in physical function, mental health, and disability in patients undergoing LLIF; however, baseline VR-12 PCS does not limit the magnitude of postoperative improvement.
