Current Neurostimulation Therapies for Chronic Pain Conditions
AbstractPurpose of ReviewNeurostimulation treatment options have become more commonly used for chronic pain conditions refractory to these options. In this review, we characterize current neurostimulation therapies for chronic pain conditions and provide an analysis of their effectiveness and clinical adoption. This manuscript will inform clinicians of treatment options for chronic pain.Recent FindingsNon-invasive neurostimulation includes transcranial direct current stimulation and repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation, while more invasive options include spinal cord stimulation (SCS), peripheral nerve stimulation ...

Cycle Syncing Won ’ t Fix Women ’ s Fitness

Exercise, Spinal Microglia and Neuropathic Pain: Potential Molecular Mechanisms
Neurochem Res. 2023 Sep 19. doi: 10.1007/s11064-023-04025-4. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAs one of the most common neuropathic disorders, neuropathic pain often has a negative impact on patients with persistent pain, mood disorders and sleep disturbances. Currently, neuropathic pain is not treated with any specific drug, instead, drugs for other diseases are used as replacements in clinics, but most have adverse effects. In recent years, the role of spinal cord microglia in the pathogenesis of neuropathic pain has been widely recognized, and they are being explored as potential therapeutic targets. Spinal microglia are k...

Rare mimicker of sacroiliitis
A 62-year-old woman was referred for suspected sacroiliitis discovered incidentally on a CT scan performed for pre-transplant assessment, in a context of chronic renal failure due to nephroangiosclerosis with haemodialysis for 18 months. Her renal disease was complicated by anaemia and secondary hyperparathyroidism. She was completely asymptomatic, including no lumbar or buttock pain. The CT scan (figure 1) showed bilateral and symmetrical subchondral bone resorption of blurred appearance responsible for a pseudo-widening which mainly concerned the iliac side, accompanied by an external border of reactive bone condensation...

Metalloproteinase-2 in failed back surgery syndrome caused by epidural fibrosis: can it play a role in persistent pain?
ConclusionResults indicate the presence of a contribution of MMP-2 and TIMP-2 in DH and FBSS. Unchanged activity of MMP-2 can indicate an insufficiency in the MMP-2 repair system in both diseases. Lower MMP-2 expression and TIMP-2 concentration in the FBSS group can reflect the chronicity of the process.

The Value of < sup > 18 < /sup > F-FDG PET/MRI in Detecting Lumbar Radiculopathy for Selective Percutaneous Endoscopic Discectomy: a Case Report
Nucl Med Mol Imaging. 2023 Oct;57(5):247-250. doi: 10.1007/s13139-023-00797-3. Epub 2023 Mar 29.ABSTRACTMagnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is the most popular imaging modality for investigating intervertebral disc herniation. However, it has a high chance for identifying incidental findings that are morphologically or structurally abnormal but not responsible for patients' symptoms. Although a previous study suggested that 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (18F-FDG) positron emission tomography/magnetic resonance imaging (PET/MRI) may help identify neuroinflammation in lumbar radiculopathy, there is currently no direct evidence obtaine...
