Preliminary comparisons between in vivo ultrasonographic virtual histology and histopathological findings of endarterectomized carotid plaque
CONCLUSION: This study confirmed the usefulness of noninvasive USVH. Further technical improvements and software developments may promote the clinical application of this method.

Analysis of risk factors related to minor and major lower limb amputations at a tertiary hospital
Conclusions Lower limb amputations at different levels are related to different risk factors. Ischemia of greater severity and morbidity was associated with major amputations, while neuropathy and preserved perfusion were more often related to minor amputations.

Open versus endovascular repair of abdominal aortic aneurysm: Incidence of cardiovascular events in 632 patients in a department of defense cohort over 6-year follow-up.
CONCLUSION: EVAR was associated with lower 30-day mortality rates; however, this benefit was not sustained in longer-term follow-up. There is no difference in the rates of stroke, myocardial infarction, or cardiac arrhythmia at 30 days or in long-term follow-up. PMID: 25134851 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Comparison of supra-arch in situ fenestration and chimney techniques for aortic dissection involving the left subclavian artery.
Conclusion Although there were previous studies describing the similar techniques, this study appears to be the first study to compare in situ fenestration and chimney techniques for aortic dissection involving the left subclavian artery according to the MEDLINE search. Although we are unable to establish the superiority between two approaches due to small sample size and relative short period of follow-up, in situ fenestration may represent a more favorable option, especially among aortic dissections with short proximal landing zones in the study. Bivalirudin versus heparin in patients undergoing percutaneous peripheral interventions: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
CONCLUSION: Our meta-analysis suggests that bivalirudin use for percutaneous peripheral interventions is associated with lower all-cause mortality, bleeding, and access site complications as compared to heparin. Further large randomized trials are needed to confirm the current results. PMID: 30501582 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Anti-platelet and anti-coagulant therapy in peripheral arterial disease prior to surgical intervention.
CONCLUSION: Peripheral artery disease is a complex and multifactorial clinical condition. The use of dual anti-platelets, such as aspirin and clopidogrel, are the key in preventing major cardiovascular events as well as stroke and death. Utilization of anti-coagulation such as direct oral anti-coagulants' as additional parameters for the prevention of disease progression, is paramount. Eventually, the choice of either dual-antiplatelet therapy or combined anti-coagulation with anti-platelets should be carefully considered, particularly following the most recent published debatable studies. Synchronous versus staged carotid artery stenting and coronary artery bypass graft for patients with concomitant severe coronary and carotid artery stenosis: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
CONCLUSION: The simultaneous approach was associated with an increased risk of 30-day stroke compared to staged CAS and CABG. However, no statistically significant difference was found in long-term results of mortality, MI and stroke between the two approaches. Future studies are warranted to validate our results. Selective-versus-Standard Poststent Dilation for Carotid Artery Disease: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis EXTRACRANIAL VASCULAR
CONCLUSIONS: Our meta-analysis demonstrated no significant difference in angiographic and clinical outcomes among series that performed standard poststent angioplasty and those that performed poststent angioplasty in only select patients.

Carotid Artery Entrapment by Hyoid Bone —A Rare Cause of Recurrent Strokes in a Young Patient
The search for etiology of stroke in a young patient may present a diagnostic challenge. In rare cases, chronic external trauma to the carotid may be the cause of cerebral thromboembolic events. The hyoid bone lies in close proximity to the carotid artery bifurcation, and anatomic variants have been implicated in carotid compression, stenosis, dissection, and pseudoaneurysm.
