The role of inflammation as a preponderant risk factor in cardiovascular diseases
Curr Vasc Pharmacol. 2022 Feb 1. doi: 10.2174/1570161120666220201160038. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCardiovascular diseases cause considerable health and economic burden, as they are the leading cause of disability and death in the western world. Inactivity, hypertension, obesity, diabetes, and smoking are among the classic risk factors for cardiovascular disease. From a pathophysiological point of view, the arteries of our body bear the harmful stimuli produced by these factors and respond to them with a series of intricate adaptive mechanisms. Vascular remodeling constitutes an adaptive response to hemodynamic and inf...

Association between the frailty index and vascular brain damage: The Treviso Dementia (TREDEM) registry
CONCLUSION: An FI based on routine clinical and laboratory variables was associated with the presence, degree, and some localizations of VBD in a population of older adults with cognitive decline. This frailty assessment tool may therefore be used to identify individuals at risk of developing cerebrovascular disease and, consequently, to implement strategies for vascular risk factor control.PMID:35843350 | DOI:10.1016/j.exger.2022.111894

Paediatric extremity vascular injuries – Experience from a large urban trauma centre in India
Conclusion: The epidemiology of paediatric peripheral vascular injury differs in India compared to west. Certain traditional management principles of extremity vascular trauma may stand uniquely challenged in the paediatric population.

Do subclinical vascular abnormalities precede impaired physical ability and ADL disability?
Abstract Cardiovascular disease is an important cause of disability in activities of daily living (ADL) through its effect on physical functioning. However, it is unclear whether subclinical vascular abnormalities and rate of change in subclinical vascular abnormalities is also associated with an impaired physical ability and with ADL disability. In a longitudinal study, 490 middle-aged and older persons were included. Physical ability was measured using the Short Physical Performance Battery and ADL disability using a questionnaire on self-reported basic and instrumental ADL. Subclinical vascular abnormalities we...

An Integrated Approach for Vascular Health: A Call to Action
Publication date: Available online 6 November 2014 Source:Canadian Journal of Cardiology Author(s): Blair J. O'Neill , Shadab N. Rana , Vincent Bowman Vascular diseases such as stroke, myocardial infarction, most causes of heart failure, dementia, peripheral arterial disease, certain kidney, and many lung and eye conditions are a result of disorders in the blood vessels (large and small) throughout the entire human body. Vascular diseases are the leading cause of preventable death and disability in Canada 1 . Most vascular diseases share common risk factors (high blood pressure, diabetes, dyslipidemia and obesity), which...

Associations between Greenness, Impervious Surface Area, and Nighttime Lights on Biomarkers of Vascular Aging in Chennai, India
Conclusion: Greenness, ISA, and NTL were associated with increased SBP, DBP, and cPP, and with reduced FMD, suggesting a possible additional EVA pathway for the relationship between urbanization and increased CVD prevalence in urban India. https://doi.org/10.1289/EHP541 Received: 20 May 2016 Revised: 03 January 2017 Accepted: 23 January 2017 Published: 02 August 2017 Address correspondence to K.J. Eye Tracking Measures Reveal How Changes in the Design of Displays for Augmentative and Alternative Communication Influence Visual Search in Individuals With Down Syndrome or Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Conclusions Small changes to the organization of the simulated augmentative and alternative communication display resulted in substantial differences in eye gaze and speed to find a target. Of greatest clinical import is the finding that clustering symbols reduced attention to distracters, given that individuals with disabilities may be prone to distraction.
