Childhood maltreatment and high dietary fat intake behaviors in adulthood: A birth cohort study.
This study addresses the extent to which co-occurring and specific forms of substantiated childhood maltreatment are associated with self-reported high dietary fat intake in adulthood and whether there is a gender-childhood maltreatment interaction in predicting this association. The study also examines the association between age at substantiation of maltreatment, number of childhood maltreatment substantiations and high dietary fat intake-related behaviors. The data were from a prospective Australian pre-birth mother-child dyads study, the Mater-University of Queensland Study of Pregnancy. The study followed 7223 mother-...

What do Australian adults eat for breakfast? A latent variable mixture modelling approach for understanding combinations of foods at eating occasions
The patterning of food intake at eating occasions is a poorly understood, albeit important, step towards achieving a healthy dietary pattern. However, to capture the many permutations of food combinations at e...

Barriers to Palliative Care Referral and Advance Care Planning (ACP) for Patients With COPD: A Cross-Sectional Survey of Palliative Care Nurses
CONCLUSIONS: Palliative care nurses have substantial knowledge and positive beliefs regarding ACP, however, some beliefs and practices lack alignment with qualitative data on patients' wishes in COPD. While palliative care nurses are well placed to facilitate early implementation for patients with advanced COPD, ACP training and practice guidelines specific to COPD may increase implementation in this life-limiting disease.PMID:34013782 | DOI:10.1177/10499091211018192

Differences in genetic and environmental variation in adult BMI by sex, age, time period, and region: an individual-based pooled analysis of 40 twin cohorts Obesity and eating disorders
Conclusions: The heritability of BMI decreased and differences in the sets of genes affecting BMI in men and women increased from young adulthood to old age. The heritability of BMI was largely similar between cultural-geographic regions and measurement years, despite large differences in mean BMI and variances in BMI. Our results show a strong influence of genetic factors on BMI, especially in early adulthood, regardless of the obesity level in the population.

Comparing internalization of appearance ideals and appearance-related pressures among women from the United States, Italy, England, and Australia.
Abstract Researchers have observed variation in levels of body image disturbance and eating pathology among women from different Western countries. Examination of cross-cultural differences in the established risk factors (i.e., thin-ideal internalization, muscular-ideal internalization, and appearance pressures from family, peers, and media) for negative outcomes may help to elucidate the prominence of specific risk factors within a given Western society and guide associated interventions. Women from the United States (US), Italy, England, and Australia completed the Sociocultural Attitudes Towards Appearance Que...

IJERPH, Vol. 15, Pages 2620: Using Cross-Sectional Data to Identify and Quantify the Relative Importance of Factors Associated with and Leading to Food Insecurity
el Phillips Australian governments routinely monitor population household food insecurity (FI) using a single measure—‘running out of food at least once in the previous year’. To better inform public health planning, a synthesis of the determinants and how they influence and modify each other in relation to FI was conducted. The analysis used data from the Health & Wellbeing Surveillance System cross-sectional dataset. Weighted means and multivariable weighted logistic regression described and modelled factors involved in FI. The analysis showed the direction and strength of the factors and a path di...

Comparing the Emergency Medicine Residency Programs in Iran and around the World; a Descriptive Study
CONCLUSION: Considering the results of comparing the Iranian curriculum with the curriculums of the United States, Canada, the European Union, Australia, and Saudi Arabia, it seems that Iran's program is comprehensive and complete; but, a reappraisal of the course duration and entering options are necessary to eliminate or improve the inadequacies.PMID:36620743 | PMC:PMC9807940 | DOI:10.22037/aaem.v11i1.1867

Physical appearance concerns are uniquely associated with the severity of steroid dependence and depression in anabolic –androgenic steroid users
ConclusionsLimitations notwithstanding, the study is consistent with the notion that AAS users who experience appearance concerns are at heightened risk of co‐morbid psychological dysfunction. Given trends indicating an increase in the prevalence of AAS use in Australia and elsewhere, the findings suggest that health‐care systems may need to consider prioritising the sub‐population of AAS users who experience appearance concerns. Further investigation of the clinical syndrome of AAS dependence is required, including its relation to body image and eating disorders.
