And why is good sleep so critical to overall metabolism? The answers to all of these questions may lie in our genes. Although the science of sleep is still young, scientists have uncovered a number of surprising ways that genes might affect your sleep. Here are five:  1. Children in the pilot study - 80 aged between eight and 12, half of which had ADHD - showed improved working memory and levels of attention, and some parent ratings of symptoms also rose, according to the re...

Many Kids With Mental Health Issues See Only Pediatricians
One in three children who were diagnosed and treated for mental health conditions on an outpatient basis saw their primary-care doctors for this care, a new study reports. Using data from a nationally representative survey, the researchers found that about 35 percent of children receiving mental health care in the past year had appointments only with their primary-care physicians compared with about 26 percent who saw only psychiatrists and 15 percent who saw only psychologists or social workers. The findings highlight the role that primary-care providers are playing on a national level in caring for children wit...

Does Your Child Have an Anxiety Disorder?
Does Your Child Have An Anxiety Disorder? originally appeared on Babble.com. Jan knew she couldn't be late for work again, but her daughter Emily was making it increasingly difficult to get out the door on time. The 6-year-old simply did not want to go to school. Breakfast had become an ordeal and Emily frequently complained that she had a stomachache. She was missing the bus several days a week, and driving her to school was making Jan late. Emily would cling tightly to her mother's arm and beg to go home as Jan practically dragged her to class. "Honey, you'll be OK," Jan would tell Emily. "I know you love Mrs. Hernandez ...

What We've Learned About Kids And Sleep In 2015
Kids’ sleep is truly precious. For parents, hardly anything beats the sight of their little one wrapped in a blanket, curls strewn over the pillow, breathing softly and looking happy and serene. An Ancient Fix For Backache
Too many doctors refuse to think outside the narrow confines of the mainstream medical establishment – especially when it comes to chronic back pain. Back pain is one of the most common reasons Americans go to the doctor, which explains why it’s also one of America’s biggest businesses. But I never cease to be astounded when patients come to my wellness clinic with back pain and tell me they’ve already had a barrage of dangerous Big Pharma prescriptions pushed at them. These drugs include highly addictive opiates like Vicodin, Percocet and OxyContin. Meanwhile, big bucks are also made when doctors push ...
