Mammary Paget's disease and radiotherapy: a systematic literature review
CONCLUSIONS: Actually, the standard treatment of PDB reflects oncological principles of breast carcinoma therapy, including the role of breast-preserving surgery. The traditional radiotherapic dose is 50 Gy, with daily fractionation of 2 Gy. Adjuvant radiotherapy following breast preserving surgery represents the current standard of care; prospective studies could be of help in defining the role of exclusive radiotherapy, hypofractionated schemes and smaller target volumes.PMID:33660791 | DOI:10.26355/eurrev_202102_25076

Renal circulation and microcirculation during intra-abdominal hypertension in a porcine model.
CONCLUSIONS: CEUS is a safe, real-time dynamic, noninvasive and simple technique to evaluate renal microvascular perfusion in intra-abdominal hypertension. Descending slope, PI and AUC can be used for the diagnosis of the renal microvascular damage in a porcine model of IAP-induced renal impairment. Also, SDF on the surface of the kidney is a useful tool to evaluate the microcirculation of kidney but sublingual SDF imaging was barely useful. PMID: 26914119 [PubMed - in process]

A comparative study between myo-inositol and metformin in the treatment of insulin-resistant women.
CONCLUSIONS: MYO and MET, associated with life-style, had both significant beneficial effects on serum progesterone and prolactin levels, menstrual cycle disorders and pregnancy rates in patients without severe carbohydrate metabolism malfunctions. Nevertheless, no significant differences were found between the MET and the MYO groups. Significant results in hormone levels and symptoms were reached with the combination of both treatments, whereas fasting serum insulin levels were slightly improved. Furthermore, the body mass index (BMI) was moderately but not significantly higher in MET and MET+MYO group. PMID: 28724173...

Comorbidities in coexisting chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and obstructive sleep apnea - overlap syndrome.
CONCLUSIONS: We conclude that comorbidities, especially cardiovascular, in patients with overlap syndrome are at least as prevalent as in sleep apneic only patients and may contribute to the overall severity and prognosis of the disease. PMID: 30024626 [PubMed - in process]

Use of balloon catheter dilation and steroid-eluting stent in light and severe rhinosinusitis of frontal sinus: a multicenter retrospective randomized study.
CONCLUSIONS: BCD is an acclared option in the management of frontal CRS and in the near future, utilization of stents/spacers could become a new and effective weapon in the management of rhinosinusitis, both like an adjunct to standard therapies, and in patient populations where the use of systemic drugs is contraindicated. MiR-136 triggers apoptosis in human gastric cancer cells by targeting AEG-1 and BCL2.
CONCLUSIONS: Taken together, we conclude that miR-136 promotes apoptosis in gastric cancer cells by targeting AEG-1 and BCL2. Therefore, miR-136 may prove as a potential therapeutic target for the treatment of gastric cancer. PMID: 30468468 [PubMed - in process]

Effect of temperature and humidity on the dynamics of daily new cases and deaths due to COVID-19 outbreak in Gulf countries in Middle East Region.
CONCLUSIONS: An increase in relative humidity was associated with a decrease in the number of daily cases and deaths due to COVID-19 in GCC countries. The daily growth factor for patients and deaths shows a declining trend. However, the climate is swiftly changing in the region; further studies may be conducted during the peak of summer season. The findings have outcomes for policymakers and health officials about the impact of temperature and humidity on epidemiological trends of daily new cases and deaths due to COVID-19. Comparison across 12 countries on knowledge, attitude, and behavior scores about medication errors in Intensive Care Units: an international study
CONCLUSIONS: Further studies are needed to explore the issue of medication error concerning nurses' cultural backgrounds, as well as to assess similarities and disparities among international nurses.PMID:34919221 | DOI:10.26355/eurrev_202112_27415
