Approaching glioblastoma during COVID-19 pandemic: current recommendations and considerations in Brazil
Conclusion: Approaching glioblastoma during the COVID-19 pandemic will be challenging worldwide, but particularly in Brazil, where a significant inequality of healthcare exists.RESUMO Introdu ção: Pacientes com câncer, em geral, e particularmente pacientes com glioblastoma estão sob elevado risco de desenvolver síndrome respiratória aguda grave devido à infecção pelo SARS-CoV-2, e alcançar um equilíbrio entre risco de exposição à infecção e benefício clínico do tratamen to seria o ideal. O comportamento agressivo desse grupo de tumores justifica a necessidade de equipe multidisciplinar para auxiliar nas d...

Behavioral variant frontotemporal dementia in patients with previous severe mental illness: a systematic and critical review
Conclusions: The available evidence demonstrates how fragile the current understanding is regarding the association between bvFTD and prior SMI.RESUMO Objetivos: Explorar a rela ção entre doença mental grave (DMG) e a variante comportamental da demência frontotemporal (DFTvc), uma vez que os padrões de sintomas e de desempenho cognitivo que caracterizam ambos os transtornos compartilham semelhanças. Métodos: Revisão sistemática investigando estudos publicados sobr e a relação entre DFTvc e DMG. Os estudos foram selecionados nas bases de dados PubMed e LILACS, incluindo aqueles publicados até 12 de fevereiro de ...

Comparison of conventional, amplitude-integrated and geodesic sensor net EEG used in premature neonates: a systematic review
Conclusion: This analysis may be useful in studies and research related to diseases and symptoms, such as seizures, a current challenge for neonatal neuromonitoring, as well as aspects of neurological development and functional studies. However, despite many advances in technology, electroencephalography in preterm neonates remains a challenge worldwide and still requires more robust research and efforts towards the best clinical assistance in this extremely early stage of life.RESUMO M étodos para avaliar a atividade cortical em neonatos têm grande importância na Medicina moderna, pois permitem a observação e avaliaÃ...

The rs3857059 variant of the SNCA gene is associated with Parkinson’s disease in Mexican Mestizos
ABSTRACT Among the candidate genes for Parkinson’s disease (PD), SNCA has replicated association in different populations. Besides other known mutations in the SNCA gene, the rs3857059 variant has also been linked to various neurodegenerative disorders. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to search for association of this variant and sporadic PD in Mexican Mestizo patients. A case-control study was performed including 241 individuals, 106 patients, and 135 healthy controls. Genotyping was performed using real-time PCR. The rs3857059 variant demonstrated an association with PD in Mexican Mestizos (OR = 2.40, CI, 1...

Currents issues in cardiorespiratory care of patients with post-polio syndrome
Conclusion Only when evaluated and treated promptly, somE patients can obtain the full benefits of the use of respiratory muscles aids as far as quality of life is concerned.

Stroke occurring in patients with cognitive impairment or dementia
Conclusion Patients with cognitive impairment who develop a stroke have worse outcomes, but should be treated like others.RESUMO Um em cada seis pacientes internados em decorr ência de acidente vascular cerebral (AVC) apresenta diagnóstico prévio de demência.

Current contribution of diffusion tensor imaging in the evaluation of diffuse axonal injury
ABSTRACT Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is the number one cause of death and morbidity among young adults. Moreover, survivors are frequently left with functional disabilities during the most productive years of their lives. One main aspect of TBI pathology is diffuse axonal injury, which is increasingly recognized due to its presence in 40% to 50% of all cases that require hospital admission. Diffuse axonal injury is defined as widespread axonal damage and is characterized by complete axotomy and secondary reactions due to overall axonopathy. These changes can be seen in neuroimaging studies as hemorrhagic focal areas and d...

Basal cortisol levels and the relationship with clinical symptoms in multiple sclerosis: a systematic review
ABSTRACT Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a demyelinating, progressive and neurodegenerative disease. A disturbance on the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis can be observed in patients with MS, showing altered cortisol levels. We aimed to identify basal cortisol levels and verify the relationship with clinical symptoms in patients with MS. A systematic search was conducted in the databases: Pubmed, Web of Science and SCOPUS. Both higher and lower cortisol levels were associated with MS. Higher cortisol levels were associated with depression and anxiety, while lower levels were associated with depression, fatigue and urinary dy...
