Free carnitine and branched chain amino acids are not good biomarkers in Huntington’s disease
Conclusions: Although valine levels were lower in HD carriers and were related to BMI losses observed in pre-symptomatic individuals, none of these metabolites seem to be biomarkers for HD.RESUMO Introdu ção: A doença de Huntington (DH), causada por uma repetição CAG expandida no HTT, não possui tratamento e biomarcadores são necessários para futuros ensaios clínicos. Idade, s...

Stroke-mimics in stroke-units. Evaluation after changes imposed by randomized trials
Conclusion: Considering that the number of patients admitted for stroke treatment will increase even further with a larger therapeutic window for mechanical thrombectomy and for thrombolysis, a diagnostic decision-making algorithm for stroke patients is required in order to reinforce the suspicion of stroke indicating an urgent MRI.Resumo Uma janela terap êutica maior para o tratamento do AVC exige uma mudança significativa na organização dos serviços de emergência, para evitar o aumento do número de exames de imagem e indiretamente o tempo de tratamento. Objetivo: destacar a relação entre avaliação clínica mai...

Assessment of ventilatory function in patients with spinocerebellar ataxia type 2
Conclusion: Ventilatory dysfunction, even when asymptomatic, is related to balance impairment, independence, and ataxia severity in individuals with SCA2.Resumo Disfun ção ventilatória subclínica tem sido observada em indivíduos com ataxias espinocerebelares (SCA).

Demyelination in experimental intraventricular neurocysticercosis
In conclusion, the presence of cysticerci and the consequent inflammation were able to promote initial periventricular demyelination followed by parenchymatous demyelination as the infection progressed.

Gliosarcomas: magnetic resonance imaging findings
Conclusion: These findings are discussed in relation to the general characteristics of GSM reported in the literature.

A concise historical perspective of the area postrema structure and function
ABSTRACT First described by Retzius at the end of the 19th century, the structure in the posterior medulla oblongata, then named area postrema, underwent an intense investigation into its function in the decades that followed. Findings, mainly in animal studies, have partially elucidated its role as an emetic center in the central nervous system. In the second half of the 20th century, this function was associated with reports of syndromes characterized by uncontrollable nausea and vomiting related to structural damage in the area postrema, mainly in the context of demyelinating diseases. At the beginning of the 21st centu...

Association between cognitive impairment and criteria for frailty syndrome among older adults
Conclusion: Older adults with frailty have a greater likelihood of concomitant cognitive impairment than prefrail and robust older adults. The prevalence of cognitive impairment and frailty is consistent with data reported in literature. The present findings contribute to the investigation of cognitive frailty.

Spinal protein kinase A and phosphorylated extracellular signal-regulated kinase signaling are involved in the antinociceptive effect of phytohormone abscisic acid in rats
Conclusions: Overall, i.t. administration of ABA (10 µg/rat) induced analgesia and p-ERK down-expression likely by involving the PKA-dependent mechanism.

Resolution of headache after reduction of prolactin levels in hyperprolactinemic patients
Conclusion: Data allow us to conclude that, in this series, in the majority of cases the reduction in the level of PRL was followe3d by cessation or relief of the pain.
