The Orofacial Pain Clinic Questionnaire (EDOF-HC) in the evaluation and diagnosis of orofacial pain
Conclusions: The EDOF-HC is a clinical supportive tool for the assessment of orofacial pain. The instrument may be used to support data collection from anamnesis and examination of patients according to the diagnostic criteria of most common orofacial conditions. It is also useful in the investigation of local and systemic abnormalities and contributes for the diagnosis of conditions that depend on exclusion criteria.RESUMO Introdu ção: Instrumentos diagnósticos são necessários para a anamnese e exame da dor orofacial, auxiliando na identificação das causas potenciais de dor. Objetivo: Avaliar o Questionário da Equ...

Rehabilitation for motor functional neurological disorder: a follow-up study of 185 patients
Conclusion: Participation in rehabilitation is beneficial for patients with mFND. Symptoms lasting for less than 30 days and aged less than 18 years had better outcomes (p<0.001).RESUMO Introdu ção: Alterações motoras decorrentes de Transtorno Neurológico Funcional (TNF) são comuns, incapacitantes e com prognóstico ruim.

Cystatin C as a potential biomarker to evaluate migraine
Conclusion: Our findings demonstrate that high serum Cys C levels are independently associated to migraine without aura. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study to determine the serum levels of Cys C in patients with migraine. Thus, serum Cys C may be a potential biomarker of migraine.RESUMO Introdu ção: A enxaqueca é uma síndrome neurovascular multifatorial e está intimamente associada à inflamação. A cistatina C (Cys C) é um polipeptídeo neuroendócrino que também desempenha papel importante na inflamação. Objetivo: Investigar os níveis de Cys C em pacientes com enxaqueca sem aura. Métodos: F...

Decompressive craniectomy versus conservative treatment: limits and possibilities in malignant stroke
Conclusion: In absolute values, superiority in the effectiveness of DC over CT was perceived, showing that the reduction in mortality was at the expense of increased disability.RESUMO Introdu ção: O infarto maligno da artéria cerebral média (ACM) ocorre em um subgrupo de pacientes com acidente vascular cerebral (AVC) isquêmico e a craniectomia descompressiva (CD) precoce é um de seus tratamentos. Objetivo: Investigar o desfecho funcional de pacientes com acidente vascular cerebr al isquêmico maligno submetidos à craniectomia descompressiva em um centro de emergência neurológica do nordeste do Brasil. Presence of generalized periodic discharges and hospital mortality
Conclusions: The presence of post-CA GPDs was associated with worse prognosis, but it was not clear whether these patterns are independent factors of an unfavorable evolution.RESUMO Introdu ção: As descargas periódicas generalizadas (DPG) são padrões raros que podem ser encontrados durante monitorização eletroencefalográfica prolongada (MEP) em pacientes críticos.

The Xbox/Kinect use in poststroke rehabilitation settings: a systematic review
Conclusion: The greater use of Xbox/Kinect in treating patients after stroke is in recovery of balance and motor function, and the evidence support its application. These findings enable the use of virtual reality technology through Xbox/Kinect in rehabilitation programs, focusing on postural balance and motor skills. However, conclusive results are still not possible. Therefore, caution in the use of this technology is required.RESUMO Introdu ção: Jogos ativos baseados em realidade virtual têm sido amplamente utilizados na reabilitação de muitas condições clínicas. Abstract A unique association joins Guillaume Apollinaire, Blaise Cendrars and Louis Ferdinand C éline. Besides being great exponents of French literature, they were all neurologically wounded during the First World War. Apollinaire had a traumatic brain injury, Cendrars developed phantom limb neuropathic pain and Céline presented radial nerve paralysis. There is quite an evidence that suppor ts that their artistic output was also influenced by acquired neurological conditions during the war. The examples of these three French authors reveal the surprising intimacy Neurology can share with art and history.Resumo Uma asso...
