Dissecting ultra-processed foods and drinks: Do they have a potential to impact the brain?
AbstractUltra-processed foods and drinks (UPF) are formulation of ingredients, mostly of exclusive industrial use, that result from a series of industrial processes. They usually have a low nutrient but high energy density, with a high content of saturated and trans fats, and added sugars. In addition, they have characteristic organoleptic properties, and usually contain sophisticated additives, including artificial sweeteners, to intensify their sensory qualities and imitate the appearance of minimally processed foods. In addition, recent research has warned about the presence of chemicals (e.g., bisphenol) and neo-formed...

Has Reality Television Come of Age as a Promotional Platform? Modeling the Endorsement Effectiveness of Celebreality and Reality Stars
This study, which is grounded in connectedness theory, addresses an unresolved issue related to the use of celebrity endorsers, that is, how endorsers’ status as reality or celebreality stars influences viewers’ perceptions of, beliefs about, and purchase intentions toward products they endorse. These relationships were examined through SEM, as were the effects of viewers’ connectedness to RTVP stars and their perceptions regarding whether RTVPs are authentic. Four primary findings emerged. The observation that reality impacted viewer connectedness and that connectedness and authenticity impacted viewers’ purchase ...

Long‐term adherence to sublingual therapy: literature review and suggestions for management strategies based on patients’ needs and preferences
Summary Sublingual immunotherapy (SLIT) is an at‐home, self‐administered, long‐term therapy. As with other chronic diseases, patient adherence is a prerequisite for the success of SLIT. Its ease of intake and convenience should ensure adequate patient compliance; however, a recent post‐marketing manufacturers’ survey has shown a very high rate of discontinuation. The available literature on patient adherence to SLIT is reviewed in the present article. Great differences exist between controlled studies, which show a satisfactory adherence rate, and long‐term real‐life studies, which show poor compliance with S...

Why comply? Risk and efficacy perceptions drive compliance in mass marketing scams
J Elder Abuse Negl. 2023 Apr 11:1-33. doi: 10.1080/08946566.2023.2197268. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTUsing a mix-method design, we examined participants' willingness to respond to mass marketing scams (MMS). In Experiment 1, we examined the effect of age (young versus older) and letter style ("hot" versus "cold") on the intention to respond. The intention of responding was negatively associated with risk (p < .001) and having at least a high school education was positively associated with perception of benefits (b = .684, p < .001). In Experiment 2, we examined reward sensitivity on the intention to respond by man...
