Neuroprotective and Neuro-restorative Effects of Minocycline and Rasagiline in a Zebrafish 6-Hydroxydopamine Model of Parkinson ’s Disease
We describe a 6-hydroxydopamine (6-OHDA) zebrafish model to screen drugs for neuroprotective and neuro-restorative capacity. Zebrafish larvae at two days post fertilization were exposed to 6-OHDA for three days, with co-administration of test drugs for neuroprotection experiments, or for 32 h, with subsequent treatment with test drugs for neuro-restoration experiments. Locomotor activity was assessed by automated tracking and dopaminergic neurons were visualized by tyrosine hydroxylase immuno-histochemistry. Exposure to 6-OHDA for either 32 h or 3 days induced similar, significant locomotor deficits and neuronal loss...

Neuro-Cells therapy improves motor outcomes and suppresses inflammation during experimental syndrome of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis in mice.
CONCLUSION: The neuropathology in FUS-tg mice is sensitive to standard ALS treatments and Neuro-Cells infusion. The latter improves motor outcomes in two ALS models possibly by suppressing microglial activation. PMID: 31867846 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Resveratrol ameliorates lipopolysaccharide-induced anxiety-like behavior by attenuating YAP-mediated neuro-inflammation and promoting hippocampal autophagy in mice.
Abstract Resveratrol, a type of natural polyphenol mainly extracted from the skin of grapes, has been reported to protect against inflammatory responses and exert anxiolytic effect. Yes-associated protein (YAP), a major downstream effector of the Hippo signaling pathway, plays a critical role in inflammation. The present study aimed to explore whether YAP pathway was involved in the anxiolytic effect of resveratrol in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-treated C57BL/6 J male mice. LPS treatment induced anxiety-like behavior and decreased sirtuin 1 while increased YAP expression in the hippocampus. Resveratrol attenuated L...

Mitochondrial dysfunction in the neuro-degenerative and cardio-degenerative disease, Friedreich's ataxia
Publication date: July 2018 Source:Neurochemistry International, Volume 117 Author(s): Shannon Chiang, Danuta S. Kalinowski, Patric J. Jansson, Des R. Richardson, Michael L.-H. Huang Mitochondrial homeostasis is essential for maintaining healthy cellular function and survival. The detrimental involvement of mitochondrial dysfunction in neuro-degenerative diseases has recently been highlighted in human conditions, such as Parkinson's, Alzheimer's and Huntington's disease. Friedreich's ataxia (FA) is another neuro-degenerative, but also cardio-degenerative condition, where mitochondrial dysfunction plays a crucial role in d...

Klotho-Dependent Role of 1,25(OH) < sub > 2 < /sub > D < sub > 3 < /sub > in the Brain
Neurosignals. 2021 Mar 31;29(1):14-23. doi: 10.33594/000000352.ABSTRACTThe antiaging protein Klotho is encoded by the Klotho gene first identified as an 'aging suppressor', in mice. Klotho deficiency is involved in premature aging and early death, while its overexpression is related to longevity. Klotho is mostly expressed in the kidney, but also in the brain, and in other organs. Two forms of Klotho, the cell membrane and secreted form, have pleiotropic activities that include regulation of general metabolism, oxidative stress, and mineral metabolism that correlates with its effect on accelerating aging. Membrane Klotho s...
