BIoecology of Oncideres cervina Thomson (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae) on Persea americana Mill. (Lauraceae)
The objective was to record O. cervina girdling branches of Persea americana Mill. (Lauraceae) for the first time, check the number of oviposition incisions (Noi) as a function of the diameter of branch sections, period of emergence, and describe the larval-pupal chamber. Individuals of O. cervina were observed, for the first time, in P. americana orchards in Santa Maria, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. The middle section of branches (40-60 cm interval) had higher number of incisions. Girdled branches with a diameter of 40-50 mm had higher number of them. Adults emerged from November through January. Larval-pupal boreholes had ...

Efficient artificial microRNA-mediated resistance against zucchini yellow mosaic virus in zucchini via agroinfiltration
J Virol Methods. 2023 Sep 4:114805. doi: 10.1016/j.jviromet.2023.114805. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTZucchini yellow mosaic virus (ZYMV) infects cucurbits causing yellow mosaic in leaves, malformations in fruits, and degradation of the product quality. RNA interference (RNAi) is a cellular mechanism in eukaryotes and it is exploited to protect them against viruses. The artificial micro RNA (amiRNA) mediated approach was employed to develop resistance against ZYMV. Four amiRNAs, amiZYMV_HC-115s and amiZYMV_HC-1162s (sense), amiZYMV_HC-182as and amiZYMV_HC-196as (antisense), were computationally designed and introduced int...

Flavonoids as promising anticancer therapeutics: Contemporary research, nanoantioxidant potential, and future scope
Phytother Res. 2023 Sep 5. doi: 10.1002/ptr.7975. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTFlavonoids are natural polyphenolic compounds considered safe, pleiotropic, and readily available molecules. It is widely distributed in various food products such as fruits and vegetables and beverages such as green tea, wine, and coca-based products. Many studies have reported the anticancer potential of flavonoids against different types of cancers, including solid tumors. The chemopreventive effect of flavonoids is attributed to various mechanisms, including modulation of autophagy, induction of cell cycle arrest, apoptosis, and antioxidant...

Chitosan coating enriched with in biosynthetic CuO NPs: Effects on postharvest decay and quality of mango fruit
Int J Biol Macromol. 2023 Sep 1:126668. doi: 10.1016/j.ijbiomac.2023.126668. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTA chitosan-based nanocomposite film (CSC) was developed by mixing chitosan (CS, 2 %, v/v) and copper oxide nanoparticles (CuO NPs, 500 μg∙mL-1) synthesized using Alpinia officinarum extract for the safe storage of mango fruit. The effects of CuO NPs on the morphological, mechanical, thermal, physical and antifungal properties of the CS films and postharvest quality of mango fruit were determined. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis confirmed that CuO NPs were uniformly dispersed into the CS matrix. X-ray di...
