Characterization of micronutrient supplements use by Brazilian children 6-59 months of age: Brazilian National Survey on Child Nutrition (ENANI-2019)
This study aimed to characterize micronutrient supplements use among Brazilian children 6-59 months of age included in the Brazilian National Survey on Child Nutrition (ENANI-2019; n = 12,598). Micronutrient supplements use at the time of the interview and the 6 months prior to it was evaluated using a structured questionnaire. The following indicators were included: micronutrient supplement use; supplements containing a single micronutrient; supplements of the Brazilian National Iron Supplementation Program (PNSF); multivitamin supplements with or without minerals; multivitamin supplements with minerals; multivitamin supp...

Epiretinal membrane formation and optic disc vascularisation in type 2A macular telangiectasia (MacTel)
CONCLUSION: In type 2A MacTel eyes, ERM formation and abnormal disc vascularisation are uncommon findings. More histopathologic research is needed to characterise these membranes.PMID:37644815 | DOI:10.1177/11206721231198888

Pathway-specific inputs to the superior colliculus support flexible responses to visual threat
Sci Adv. 2023 Sep;9(35):eade3874. doi: 10.1126/sciadv.ade3874. Epub 2023 Aug 30.ABSTRACTBehavioral flexibility requires directing feedforward sensory information to appropriate targets. In the superior colliculus, divergent outputs orchestrate different responses to visual threats, but the circuit organization enabling the flexible routing of sensory information remains unknown. To determine this structure, we focused on inhibitory projection (Gad2) neurons. Trans-synaptic tracing and neuronal recordings revealed that Gad2 neurons projecting to the lateral geniculate nucleus (LGN) and the parabigeminal nucleus (PBG) form t...

Intercellular communication atlas reveals Oprm1 as a neuroprotective factor for retinal ganglion cells
Res Sq. 2023 Aug 17:rs.3.rs-3193738. doi: 10.21203/rs.3.rs-3193738/v1. Preprint.ABSTRACTThe progressive death of mature neurons often results in neurodegenerative diseases. While the previous studies have mostly focused on identifying intrinsic mechanisms controlling neuronal survival, the extracellular environment also plays a critical role in regulating cell viability. Here we explore how intercellular communication contributes to the survival of retinal ganglion cells (RGCs) following the optic nerve crush (ONC). Although the direct effect of the ONC is restricted to the RGCs, we observed transcriptomic responses in oth...
