Uterine torsion in pregnancy. Case Report.
Authors: Vavrinkova B, Binder T Abstract This paper describes a case of uterine torsion not only around the long, but also the horizontal axis, diagnosed post-operatively. The patient was 28-years-old, II/I in the 34th week of her gravidity. She was admitted due to amniotic fluid leak. Due to unsuccessful delivery induction using prostaglandins, a caesarean section was indicated to end the gravidity. Uterine torsion 180° around the longitudinal axis and 90° around the transversal axis was diagnosed during the surgery. The uterine wound was treated in accordance with guidelines and the patient was dismissed in a g...

Women's fertility after laparoscopic cystectomy of endometrioma and other benign ovarian tumors - a 24-month follow-up retrospective study.
CONCLUSIONS: There is a low pregnancy rate after laparoscopic cystectomy of benign OT. Moreover, pregnancy rate after cystectomy of endometrioma is significantly lower and the percentage of reccurence of endometrioma is significantly higher. That is why, the decision about surgical treatment among childbearing women must be well-considered because of the risk of subsequent surgery in the future. Surgical treatment of severe dumping syndrome.
Authors: Smolar M, Danova I, Krivus J, Nosakova L, Polacek H, Drobna Saniova B Abstract Dumping syndrome is a common post-operative complication following gastric surgery. Clinically, severe dumping can be a serious medical condition with a negative impact on the patient's life. In our case report, we present a case of refractory dumping syndrome which developed after laparoscopic subtotal gastrectomy with gastrojejunoanastomosis due to massive gastroptosis with stomach evacuation problems. Conservative gastroenterology treatment was not successful. Due to the progression of weight loss and life-threatening hypogl...

Learning curves in laparoscopic and robot-assisted prostate surgery: a systematic search and review
ConclusionsThe definition of LC for laparoscopic and robot-assisted prostate surgery is not well defined with various metrics used among studies. Nevertheless, LCs appear to be steep and continuous. Implementation of training programs/standardization of the techniques is necessary to improve outcomes.

Open versus laparoscopic pyloromyotomy for pyloric stenosis
CONCLUSIONS: Laparoscopic pyloromyotomy may result in a small increase in mucosal perforation when compared with open pyloromyotomy for IHPS. There may be an increased risk of incomplete pyloromyotomy following LP compared with OP, but the effect estimate is imprecise and includes the possibility of no difference. We do not know about the effect of LP compared with OP on the need for re-operation, postoperative wound infections or abscess formation, postoperative haematoma or seroma formation, incisional hernia occurrence, length of postoperative stay, time to full feeds, or operating time because the certainty of the evid...

Gastric outlet obstruction secondary to a wandering spleen: systematic review and surgical management of a case
CONCLUSIONS: A wandering spleen is a rare diagnosis and there are only six reported cases of gastric outlet obstruction secondary to a wandering spleen in the literature. None report associated gastric perforation. There are a variety of presenting symptoms, intraoperative findings and operative techniques used to address the gastrosplenic abnormality. The case reported by our centre adds to this limited evidence base and demonstrates a successful outcome from definitive surgical management. We highlight the need to seek early gastro-oesophageal expertise if any gastric pathology is found together with anatomical abnormali...

Multiphase preclinical assessment of a novel device to locate unintentionally retained surgical sharps: a proof-of-concept study
CONCLUSIONS: The use of MSF in this study's RSS models facilitated the determination of presence and localization of RSS as shown by the increased rate of identification of a needle, decreased time to identification and higher accuracy in determining the presence of a needle. This device may be used in conjunction with radiography as it gives live visual and auditory feedback for users during the search for RSS.PMID:37101230 | DOI:10.1186/s13037-023-00359-8
