Survival, Recurrence, and Function After Epiphyseal Preservation and Allograft Reconstruction in Osteosarcoma of the Knee.
CONCLUSIONS: Although the recurrence rate was high in this series, the small sample size means that even one or two fewer recurrences might have resulted in a much more favorable percentage. Because of this, future, larger studies will need to determine whether this is a safe approach, and perhaps should compare epiphyseal preservation with other possible approaches, including endoprosthetic reconstruction and/or osteoarticular allografts. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: Level IV, therapeutic study. PMID: 25352262 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Abstract 550: Genomic instability and telomere characteristics as predictive biomarkers of therapeutic response in triple-negative breast cancer
Background. Triple negative breast cancers (TNBC) represent about 15 % of invasive breast carcinomas. These tumors are identified in clinical practice according to their “triple negative” immunophenotype (estrogen receptor, progesterone receptor and HER2 negative). TNBC show aggressive behavior and an unusual sarcoma-like pattern of metastasis. Identification of predictive biomarkers is critical to optimal therapeutic management of these tumors. TNBC are characterized by increased genomic instability. These tumors present complex pattern of numerous low-amplitude genomic gains and losses as well as shorter telomeres. A...

Abstract 1723: Effect and mechanism of PF299804 alone and in combination with STAT3 inhibitor in human sarcoma cell lines
Conclusion: Although the second generation irreversible pan-HER inhibitor PF299804 inactivated HER family and downstream pathways, it encountered resistance at least partially due to the STAT3 activation. Therefore, addition of STAT3 inhibitor in PF299804 therapy may block STAT3 activation and achieve synergistic anti-proliferation in sarcoma cell lines. Sy8-1 * the present and perspective in breast cancer study groups of jcog
The mission of Japan Clinical Oncology Group (JCOG) is development the standard treatment for each 17 specific cancers according to several clinical trials based on public fund. These funds were obtained from Cancer Development Fund 26-A-4 and competitive funds of The Ministry of Health. The history of Breast Cancer Study Group (BCSG) is old and have been continued for about 30 years since the dawn of JCOG. Currently, BCSG consist of 36 institutions from the whole country. There are strict rules to increase the participating sites. We have performed 15 clinical trials (11: metastatic and advanced breast cancer, 3: adjuvant...

Prediction of neoadjuvant radiation chemotherapy response and survival using pretreatment 18 FFDG PET/CT scans in locally advanced rectal cancer
Conclusion Metabolic and textural parameters from initial [18F]FDG PET/CT scans could be indexes to assess tumour heterogeneity for the prediction of neoadjuvant radiation chemotherapy response and recurrence in LARC.

Diagnosis and Treatment of Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma in Children and Adolescents – Recommendations of the GPOH-NPC Study Group
Klin Padiatr 2016; 228: 105-112DOI: 10.1055/s-0041-111180Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is a rare malignant tumor arising from epithelial cells of the nasopharynx. Its incidence is highest in Southeast Asia. Age distribution of NPC is bimodal, with one peak in young adolescents and another in patients 55–59 years of age. EBV appears to be the primary etiologic agent in the pathogenesis, environmental factors such as nitrosamines and genetic factors are contributory. NPC is most commonly diagnosed in locally advanced stages, with lymph node metastases occurring in up to 90% of patients. About 5–10% of patients present w...

Focal adhesion kinase: predictor of tumour response and risk factor for recurrence after neoadjuvant chemoradiation in rectal cancer
This study includes 73 patients with locally advanced rectal cancer receiving standard neoadjuvant CRT followed by total mesorectal excision. Focal adhesion kinase protein levels were immunohistochemically analysed in the pre‐treatment biopsies of these patients and correlated with tumour response to CRT and patients survival. Low FAK expression was significantly correlated with local and distant recurrence (P = 0.013). Low FAK expression was found to be a predictive marker of tumour response to neoadjuvant therapy (P = 0.007) and patients whose tumours did not express FAK showed a strong association with lower disea...

Outcome and Salvage Surgery Following “Watch and Wait” for Rectal Cancer after Neoadjuvant Therapy: A Systematic Review
CONCLUSION: The majority of patients with tumor regrowth can be salvaged with definite surgery after “watch and wait.” However, there is insufficient evidence to draw firm conclusions on the oncological safety of this approach; therefore, it is currently not the standard of care for locally advanced rectal cancer.

Analysis of the relevance between molecular subtypes and efficacy of neoadjuvant chemotherapy in breast cancer as well as its prognostic factors
ConclusionsThe pCR was more frequently observed in HER2 overexpression type and Triple negative type of breast cancer. That could achieve a higher rate of pCR on paclitaxel class joint anthracycline-based chemotherapy. But Triple negative type showed worse prognosis, due to residual tumor after neoadjuvant chemotherapy, which could be in combination or sequential, at the neoadjuvant / adjuvant setting (NCCN 2016 Breast cancer, chemotherapy regimens), So how to choose a more appropriate neoadjuvant chemotherapy regimens, we should need further research.

Mesothelioma Treatment Combines Proton and Photodynamic Therapy
Intraoperative photodynamic therapy combined with novel proton radiation improved survival time significantly for recent patients with advanced-stage pleural mesothelioma. The study — the first to measure the impact of this combination — involved 10 consecutive patients treated at the University of Pennsylvania’s Abramson Cancer Center. The treatment regimen resulted in a 90 percent, two-year disease control rate and an impressive 30.3-month median overall survival from the time of diagnosis. All 10 patients were diagnosed before treatment began with stage 3 or stage 4 disease, which typically results in a 10 to 14-m...

Neoadjuvant Chemotherapy Use for Nonmetastatic Breast Cancer at Five Public South African Hospitals and Impact on Time to Initial Cancer Therapy
Conclusion.NAC use for BC at these South African hospitals was associated with both tumor characteristics and heterogenous resource constraints.Implications for Practice.Using data from a large breast cancer cohort treated in South Africa's public healthcare system, the authors looked at determinants of neoadjuvant chemotherapy use and time to initiate treatment. It was found that neoadjuvant chemotherapy was associated with increasing tumor burden and aggressive molecular subtypes, demonstrating clinically appropriate care in a lower resource setting. Results of this study also showed that time to treatment differences be...
