Association of dietary nitrate with atherosclerotic vascular disease mortality: a prospective cohort study of older adult women Nutritional epidemiology and public health
Conclusions: Nitrate intake from vegetables was inversely associated with ASVD mortality independent of lifestyle and cardiovascular disease risk factors in this population of older adult women without prevalent ASVD or diabetes. These results support the concept that nitrate-rich vegetables may reduce the risk of age-related ASVD mortality. This trial was registered at www.anzctr.org.au as ACTRN12617000640303.

A Pilot Randomized Controlled Trial of Novel Dressing and Securement Techniques in 101 Pediatric Patients
Conclusions This research suggests safety and acceptability of different securement dressings compared with standard care; securement dressings may also reduce dressing changes after insertion. Further research is required to confirm clinically cost-effective methods to prevent PICC failure.

First use of Micro Vascular Plugs in Australia: Endovascular treatment of pulmonary arteriovenous malformation
This report describes the first Australian experience with the Micro Vascular Plug System (MVP), as a permanent embolic device for the treatment of pulmonary arteriovenous malformations (PAVMs). MVPs deployed in small vessels between 2 mm and 5 mm are demonstrated to be feasible, safe and effective treatment for PAVMs.

Efforts to increase physical activity need to be strengthened to combat this, however, evidence for the design and planning of physical activity promotion in children is lacking. The aim was to identify predictors of physica...

Real-world outcomes in patients with neovascular age-related macular degeneration treated with intravitreal vascular endothelial growth factor inhibitors
We describe the development of global registries, in particular the Fight Retinal Blindness! registry that originated in Australia, the United Kingdom AMD Electronic Medical Records User Group and the IRIS registry in the USA. Real-world observations relating to efficacy, safety and resource utilisation of intravitreal anti-VEGF therapy for neovascular AMD are then summarised. Novel observations that would have been challenging to identify in a clinical trial setting are then highlighted, including the risk of late disease reactivation, outcomes in second versus first treated eyes, and the increased risk of posterior capsu...

Housing conditions associated with recurrent gastrointestinal infection in urban Aboriginal children in NSW, Australia: findings from SEARCH.
CONCLUSIONS: Housing problems were independently associated with recurrent gastrointestinal infection in a dose-dependent manner. Implications for public health: The role of housing as a potential determinant of health in urban Aboriginal children merits further attention in research and policy settings. INternational Study Group of Pediatric Pancreatitis: In Search for a CuRE Cohort StudyDesign and Rationale for INSPPIRE 2 From the Consortium for the Study of Chronic Pancreatitis, Diabetes, and Pancreatic Cancer
We created the INternational Study Group of Pediatric Pancreatitis: In Search for a CuRE (INSPPIRE 2) cohort to study the risk factors, natural history, and outcomes of pediatric acute recurrent pancreatitis and chronic pancreatitis (CP). Patient and physician questionnaires collect information on demographics, clinical history, family and social history, and disease outcomes. Health-related quality of life, depression, and anxiety are measured using validated questionnaires. Information entered on paper questionnaires is transferred into a database managed by Consortium for the Study of Chronic Pancreatitis, Diabetes, and...

Vegetable diversity in relation with subclinical atherosclerosis and 15-year atherosclerotic vascular disease deaths in older adult women
ConclusionsVegetable diversity may contribute to benefits in lowering risk of ASVD in older women. The reduction in risk is partly explained by increased total vegetable consumption.Clinical trial registryThe Perth Longitudinal Study of Aging in Women (PLSAW) trial registration ID is ACTRN12617000640303. This study was retrospectively registered on the Australian New Zealand Clinical Trials Registry athttp://www.anzctr.org.au.
