A Shared Decision Making Approach to Prescribing Aspirin + Anticoagulant Management in Peripheral Artery Disease: The Role of a Vascular Profile
This studied aimed to analyze a population with peripheral arterial disease (PAD) to identify those who may benefit from combined aspirin (ASA) and anticoagulant (AC) therapy (ASA+AC), as presented in the COMPASS trial, and assay patients' acceptance of this management.

Exploring the Utility of Brain Natriuretic Peptide Measurement in Vascular Surgery
The Canadian Cardiovascular Society 2016 guidelines recommend preoperative measurement of brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) to risk-stratify patients for a 30-day composite outcome of death, myocardial infarction (MI), or asymptomatic myocardial injury after noncardiac surgery (MINS). Whether this practice affects outcomes is unclear. The aim of this study was to examine the clinical utility of BNP and MINS.

Performance Assessment of a Novel Steering Catheter for Crossing Peripheral Arterial Occlusions
Peripheral arterial percutaneous vascular interventions have high immediate technical failure rates ( ∼20%). The most common mode of failure is the inability to cross lesions. The purpose of this study is to demonstrate the feasibility using a novel steering catheter (CathPilot) for crossing peripheral arterial chronic total occlusions (CTOs).

Time Until Elective Operation for Endovascular Aortic Aneurysm Repair in the Canadian Vascular Quality Initiative
We have described the determinants of time until surgery for patients undergoing elective endovascular aortic repair (EVAR) for abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAAs) treated at Canadian centers participating in the Vascular Quality Initiative (VQI) and its relationship with clinical outcomes.

Anti-vascular endothelial growth factors in combination with vitrectomy for complications of proliferative diabetic retinopathy
CONCLUSIONS: The perioperative use of anti-VEGF reduces the risk of late POVCH, probably results in lower early POVCH risk and may improve visual outcomes. It also reduces the incidence of intraoperative retinal breaks. The evidence is very uncertain about its effect on the need for silicone oil tamponade. The reported complications from its use appear to be low. Agreement on variables included and outcome standardisation is required in trials studying vitrectomy for PDR.PMID:37260074 | PMC:PMC10230853 | DOI:10.1002/14651858.CD008214.pub4

Prevalence of constipation in cystic fibrosis patients: a systematic review of observational studies.
CONCLUSIONS: Constipation is a frequent but still insufficiently assessed complaint of CF patients. The use of diverse diagnostic criteria restricts comparison and epidemiological conclusions, thus future studies should compulsorily apply the ESPGHAN definition. Next Phase of NIH Preprint Pilot Launching Soon
Last month, the National Library of Medicine (NLM)announced plans to extend its NIH Preprint Pilot in PubMed Central (PMC) and PubMed beyond COVID-19 to encompass all preprints reporting on NIH-funded research. The second phase of the pilot, launching later this month, will include preprints supported by an NIH award, contract, or intramural program and posted to aneligible preprint server on or after January 1, 2023.In preparation for the launch of this second phase, we have updated PMC and PubMed site features to help users of these databases incorporate the increased volume of preprints into their discovery workflows. Second Phase of the NIH Preprint Pilot Launched
Today, we are pleased to announce the launch of the second phase of the NIH Preprint Pilot with the addition of more than 700 new preprint records to PubMed Central (PMC) and PubMed. This second phase expands the scope of the Pilot to include preprints resulting from all NIH-funded research. Eligible preprints are those acknowledging direct support of an NIH award or authored by NIH staff and posted to bioRxiv, medRxiv, arXiv, or Research Square, on or after January 1, 2023. NLM will automatically include the full text of the preprint (as license terms allow) and associated citation information in PMC and PubMed, respectiv...

Translating Heart Health Knowledge into Action: A Vascular and Risk Reduction Program for Women Aged 35 to 65 Years
Can J Cardiovasc Nurs. 2016 May;26(4):5-12.ABSTRACTBACKGROUND: Globally, about 8.6 million women die each year due to cardiovascular disease with cerebral vascular disease being the third leading cause of death in women. The province of New-foundland and Labrador has one of the highest rates of vascular disease in comparison to the rest of Canada. Women in New-foundland and Labrador have higher rates of vascular disease than their female cohorts across Canada. A vascular risk reduction programfor women aged 35 to 65 years was developed and implemented in a rural and an urban setting.PURPOSE: An evaluation of the program wa...
