The Prophylactic and Therapeutic Effects of Fermented Cordyceps sinensis Powder, Cs-C-Q80, on Subcortical Ischemic Vascular Dementia in Mice.
The objectives of this study were to explore the prophylactic and therapeutic effects of Cs-C-Q80 in vascular dementia mice model. The efficacy of Cs-C-Q80 was investigated in a molecular level as well. The subcortical ischemic vascular dementia was modelled by permanent right unilateral common carotid arteries occlusion (rUCCAO) in adult male mice. The animals were randomly divided and treated by gavage with vehicle (1% CMC-Na solution) (rUCCAO model) or Cs-C-Q80 powder at 0.2 g/kg or 1.0 g/kg, respectively. Preventive treatment was administrated by gavage daily for 7 days before rUCCAO, while therapeutic treatment was ad...

Clinopodium chinense Attenuates Palmitic Acid-Induced Vascular Endothelial Inflammation and Insulin Resistance through TLR4-Mediated NF- κ B and MAPK Pathways.
Abstract Elevated palmitic acid (PA) levels are associated with the development of inflammation, insulin resistance (IR) and endothelial dysfunction. Clinopodium chinense (Benth.) O. Kuntze has been shown to lower blood glucose and attenuate high glucose-induced vascular endothelial cells injury. In the present study we investigated the effects of ethyl acetate extract of C. chinense (CCE) on PA-induced inflammation and IR in the vascular endothelium and its molecular mechanism. We found that CCE significantly inhibited PA-induced toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) expression in human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HU...

The Clinical and Vascular Characteristics of RNF213 c.14576G > A Variant-Related Intracranial Major Artery Disease in China.
Conclusions: Our study demonstrated that the c.14576G>A variant on RNF213 may be a biomarker to good outcome of ICASO in Chinese. The variant-related ICASO was characterized by both features of MMD and ICAD diagnosed by HR-MRI. PMID: 30992731 [PubMed - in process]

LncRNA OIP5-AS1 Promotes the Proliferation of Hemangioma Vascular Endothelial Cells via Regulating miR-195-5p/NOB1 Axis
Conclusion: Taken together, lncRNA OIP5-AS1 acted as a ceRNA to drive proliferation, migration and invasion of HemECs through regulating miR-195-5p/NOB1 axis. Introduction Infant hemangioma (IH) is a benign neoplasm commonly seen in childhood, which is more common in premature infants and infants with low birth weight (Smith et al., 2017). There are three distinct clinical histological stages in IH: the early proliferative stage, when undeveloped blood vessels are rapidly growing; plateau stage and final regressive stage, with scattered capillaries and large drainage vessels (Csoma et al., 2017). IH is characterize...

miR-3188 (rs7247237-C>T) Single-Nucleotide Polymorphism Is Associated With the Incidence of Vascular Complications in Chinese Patients With Type 2 Diabetes
In this study, we observed that the miR-3188 (rs7247237-C>T) polymorphism not only affected the production of nitric oxide (NO) production in endothelial cells, but also significantly associated with the incidence of vascular complications in Chinese patients with type 2 diabetes. Mechanistic analyses indicate that miR-3188 (rs7247237-T) polymorphism inhibited its own expression and upregulated the expression of gstm1 and trib3, which impairs NO production in human endothelial cells through inactivating AKT/eNOS signal transduction pathway. In addition, our clinical retrospective study indicated that, compared with patient...

Association between healthy vascular aging and the risk of the first stroke in a community-based Chinese cohort.
In this study we tested whether vascular aging is associated with the risk of first stroke in the Kailuan cohort, a community-based Chinese cohort. For participants aged ≥ 50 years, healthy vascular aging (HVA) was defined as an absence of hypertension and a brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity < the mean + 2 standard deviations, which was determined from a reference sample of healthy participants aged < 30 years. The primary outcome was first stroke (ischemic or hemorrhagic). In total, 11,474 participants were enrolled. The prevalence of HVA decreased from 36.0% in participants aged 50-59 years to 4.7% in those aged...

Aloperine suppresses human pulmonary vascular smooth muscle cell proliferation via inhibiting inflammatory response.
Authors: Chang Z, Zhang P, Zhang M, Jun F, Hu Z, Yang J, Wu Y, Zhou R Abstract Abnormal pulmonary arterial vascular smooth muscle cells (PASMCs) proliferation is critical pathological feature of pulmonary vascular remodeling that acts as driving force in the initiation and development of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), ultimately leading to pulmonary hypertension. Aloperine is a main active alkaloid extracted from the traditional Chinese herbal Sophora alopecuroides and possesses outstanding antioxidation and anti-inflammatory effects. Our group found Aloperine has protective effects on monocroline-induced p...

The search for life on Mars
Later in the summer of 2020, NASA will launch its latest Mars rover, Perseverance. To coincide with that important scientific occasion, Elizabeth Howell, PhD and Nicholas Booth have told the greatest scientific detective story of all time in The Search for Life on Mars. Their approach and style are unique, they break many a convention of the scientific history books to make this truly accessible read with none of the bluff and bluster of so many so-called popular-science books and all of the guts and glory of a gripping wannabe bestseller. The world next door, otherwise known as the Red Planet, has intrigued humanity for ...

Shenmayizhi Formula Combined with Ginkgo Extract Tablets for the Treatment of Vascular Dementia: A Randomized, Double-Blind, Controlled Trial.
Authors: Zhang H, Cao Y, Pei H, Wang H, Ma L, Wang Z, Diao X, Yang Y, Liu N, Wei Y, Li H Abstract Shenmayizhi formula (SMYZF) has been shown to have an effect on vascular dementia (VaD) in previous studies. The aim of this study was to evaluate whether a combination of SMYZF with Ginkgo extract tablets improves mild-to-moderate VaD. In this 12-week, randomized, double-blind, controlled study, we randomly assigned 196 patients with VaD (aged 50-85 years) to either the SMYZF group (n = 98) or the Ginkgo group (n = 98). All patients received Ginkgo extract tablets as a basic treatment, while the SMYZF group al...

Efficacy of tanshinone IIA and mesenchymal stem cell treatment of learning and memory impairment in a rat model of vascular dementia
CONCLUSION: TSA combined with MSCs treatment improved the spatial learning and memory capacity in a VaD model via suppressing neuronal apoptosis and antioxidant activity in the hippocampus, and this improvement was greater with combined treatment than with treatment with MSCs or TSA alone.PMID:33522206 | DOI:10.19852/j.cnki.jtcm.2021.01.015
