Are primary care physicians aware of peripheral artery disease risk reduction and management in the Saudi healthcare transformation era? A health cluster observational study
CONCLUSION: Here we identified the knowledge and action gaps among primary care providers in Saudi Arabia. Physicians had an excellent attitude about screening for and counseling about risk factors. However, they showed less interference in reducing these risk factors. We recommend addressing these knowledge gaps early in medical school and residency programs.PMID:34554018 | DOI:10.1177/17085381211044397

Vascular access mortality and hospitalization among hemodialysis patients in Palestine.
We examined all-cause mortality and hospitalization in patients being dialyzed through HD catheters as compared to patients with AV access. A total of 382 patients were included in the study. Of these, 88 had catheters and 294 had AV accesses. Seventy-eight percent of all catheters were temporary nontunneled dialysis catheters. The overall gross mortality rate for all patients was 14.7%. Gross mortality was significantly lower among AV access group compared to the catheter group (12.2% vs. 22.7%; P = 0.015). Catheter use was associated with a relative hazard ratio (HR) of 1.85 [95% confidence interval (CI), 1.13-3.03] comp...

Morin Attenuates High-Fat Diet Induced-Obesity Related Vascular Endothelial Dysfunction in Wistar Albino Rats
In this study, the protective effect of a flavonol, morin was investigated in high-fat diet (HFD)-induced dyslipidemia and vascular endothelium dysfunction. The dose-dependent attenuating effect of morin was tested at doses of 50 and 100 mg/kg/day in an in-vivo model of HFD-induced dyslipidemia using rats whereas vascular endothelial reactivity was assessed in isolated rat aorta using ex-vivo organ bath setup. Morin administration in HFD-induced dyslipidemic rats for three weeks, resulted in a significant decrease in the body weight, LW/BW ratio as compared to rats treated with HFD only where the increase in body weight wa...

Causes of the delay in creating permanent vascular access in hemodialysis patients.
This study aims to identify the physicians' perspectives regarding the reasons of delayed arteriovenous fistula (AVF) creation in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to improve the quality of CKD patients' care and prognosis and prevent complications. A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on KSA nephrologists using a questionnaire which includes factors associated with delay in AVF creation, which were categorized into patient, physician, and hospital factors. The optimal timing of starting dialysis was also assessed. In a total of 212 participants, 131 (61.8%) were of consultant level, with the largest numbers being f...
