Enzyme-inducing antiseizure medication utilization in patients with epilepsy and vascular risk factors.
CONCLUSIONS: A substantial proportion of patients with comorbid vascular disease or vascular risk factors (e.g., hypertension and older age) is prescribed EIASMs. This could potentially increase patients' risk for subsequent negative outcomes such as cardiovascular or cerebrovascular disease. Though utilization of these medications has decreased, further efforts toward increasing use of newer antiseizure medications (ASMs) that are not associated with similar risks may be warranted. IJERPH, Vol. 18, Pages 4560: Associations between Google Search Trends for Symptoms and COVID-19 Confirmed and Death Cases in the United States
anzalawy We utilize functional data analysis techniques to investigate patterns of COVID-19 positivity and mortality in the US and their associations with Google search trends for COVID-19-related symptoms. Specifically, we represent state-level time series data for COVID-19 and Google search trends for symptoms as smoothed functional curves. Given these functional data, we explore the modes of variation in the data using functional principal component analysis (FPCA). We also apply functional clustering analysis to identify patterns of COVID-19 confirmed case and death trajectories across the US. Moreover, we quantify...

State-level Google search volumes for neck and shoulder pain correlate with psychosocial and behavioral health indicators
CONCLUSION: This study highlights the potential of search engine data to be utilized as population-level health indicators. The state-level correlation of psychosocial and behavioral health indicators with online search volumes for neck and shoulder pain may reflect the influence of mental and social health on the experience of pain.PMID:33962802 | DOI:10.1016/j.jnma.2021.04.001

Bench-to-Bedside in Vascular Medicine: Optimizing the Translational Pipeline for Patients With Peripheral Artery Disease
Circ Res. 2021 Jun 11;128(12):1927-1943. doi: 10.1161/CIRCRESAHA.121.318265. Epub 2021 Jun 10.ABSTRACTPeripheral arterial disease is a growing worldwide problem with a wide spectrum of clinical severity and is projected to consume >$21 billion per year in the United States alone. While vascular researchers have brought several therapies to the clinic in recent years, few of these approaches have leveraged advances in high-throughput discovery screens, novel translational models, or innovative trial designs. In the following review, we discuss recent advances in unbiased genomics and broader omics technology platforms, a...

Mixed reality for the assessment of aortoiliac anatomy in patients with abdominal aortic aneurysm prior to open and endovascular repair: Feasibility and interobserver agreement
CONCLUSIONS: The MRV is a feasible imaging viewing technology in clinical routine. Future efforts should aim at improving hologram quality and enabling accurate registration of the hologram with the physical patient.PMID:35404720 | DOI:10.1177/17085381221081324

The relationship between lower extremity amputation and body mass index
CONCLUSIONS: Higher BMI and female gender are protective factors against lower extremity amputation. Factors that predisposing to LEA include lower household income and certain comorbidities such as PVD, diabetes, renal failure, and hypertension. These findings warrant further research to identify patients at high risk for LEA and help develop management guidelines for targeted populations.PMID:35451901 | DOI:10.1177/17085381221087824
