The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on vascular surgery trainees in the United States
The impact of the Coronavirus Disease 19 (COVID-19) pandemic on healthcare workers has been substantial. However, the impact on vascular surgery trainees have not yet been determined. The goals of our study were to gauge the impact of COVID-19 on vascular surgery trainees ’ personal and professional life and to assess stressors, coping, and support structures involved in these trainees response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Safety of vascular interventions performed in an office-based laboratory in patients with low/moderate procedural risk
An exponential increase in number of office-based laboratories (OBLs) has occurred in the United States, since the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services increased reimbursement for outpatient vascular interventions in 2008. This dramatic shift to office-based procedures directed to the objective to assess safety of vascular procedures in OBLs.

Financial Implications of COVID-19 on a Tertiary Academic Vascular Surgery Practice
This study hypothesized that vascular surgery divisions have experienced losses affecting the hospital and professional side that will not be recoupable without significant productivity increases.

Financial implications of coronavirus disease 2019 on a tertiary academic vascular surgery practice
The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has had an unprecedented impact on the healthcare system in the United States. The redistribution of resources and suspension of elective procedures and other services has resulted in financial stress across all service lines. The financial effects on the practice of vascular surgery have not yet been quantified. We hypothesized that vascular surgery divisions have experienced losses affecting the hospital and professional sides that will not be recoupable without significant productivity increases.

fPersistent Underrepresentation of Female Patients in United States Trials of Common Vascular Diseases from 2008-2020
Women have been historically under-represented in vascular surgery and cardiovascular medicine trials. The rate and change in representation of women in trials of common vascular diseases over the last decade is not completely understood.

Distribution of Open and Endovascular Abdominal Aortic Surgeries in the Vascular Quality Initiative by Hospitals and Surgeons
The endovascular era of vascular surgery has dramatically decreased the number of open aortic surgeries across the United States. However, limited data exist regarding the contemporary nationwide distribution of open aortic cases. We evaluated the distribution of both open and endovascular aortic cases in the Vascular Quality Initiative (VQI) at both the hospital and the surgeon level.

Radiation Exposure in Vascular Surgery Trainees
We evaluated the radiation safety practices among vascular surgery residents (postgraduate year [PGY] 4-7) enrolled in Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education vascular surgical residency programs across the United States.

Vascular1: Development of a Virtual Reality Training Module for Ultrasound Guided Vascular Access
Achieving direct vascular access is a procedure performed 150 million times annually in the United States. Ultrasound guided vascular access (UGVA) has been proved to minimize puncture-related complications and increase patient satisfaction. UGVA training remains limited because of the high cost and poor accessibility. We built Vascular1, a virtual reality (VR)-based module, to train essential hand –eye coordination skills for safe and effective UGVA on an affordable platform. We tested the efficacy of Vascular1 through a pilot study.

A significant proportion of current endovascular aortic aneurysm repair practice fails to meet Society for Vascular Surgery clinical practice guideline recommended abdominal aortic aneurysm diameter treatment thresholds in the Vascular Quality Initiative
There is mounting controversy surrounding the appropriate use of endovascular aortic aneurysm repair (EVAR) in contemporary practice. Persistent debate hinges on durability, cost, and survival. Accordingly, guidelines have attempted to clarify appropriate EVAR indications. The purpose of this analysis was to examine trends in EVAR practice throughout the United States and measure compliance with Society for Vascular Surgery (SVS) clinical practice diameter guidelines (CPGs).

The Impact of Clostridium Difficile Infection in Contemporary Vascular Surgery
The eradication and prevention of Clostridium difficile (CDiff) infection has been identified as an urgent problem by the Centers for Disease Control. Accordingly, institutional infection rates have become proxies for health care quality, and efforts to limit organizational CDiff have emerged as a health care system priority. However, the sequelae of CDiff infection after contemporary vascular surgery remains undefined. The purpose of this analysis was to quantify the impact of CDiff infection among patients undergoing major vascular operations in the United States.

Vascular Complications Secondary to Resuscitative Endovascular Balloon Occlusion of the Aorta Placement at a Level 1 Trauma Center
Resuscitative endovascular balloon occlusion of the aorta (REBOA) is designed to manage severe hemorrhagic shock. Popularized in medical care during military conflicts, the concept emerged as a lifesaving technique that is used in the United States. Literature on the risks of REBOA placement, especially vascular injuries, are not well-reported. Our goal was to assess the incidence of vascular injury from REBOA placement, risk factors associated with injury and the incidence of death among these patients at our institution.

Concerning Trends in Vascular Surgery Trainee Operative Experience in Venous Disease
Comprehensive vascular care includes both arterial and venous disease management. However, operative training in venous disease is often significantly overshadowed by arterial procedures, despite an increasing public health burden of acute and chronic venous disease. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the case-mix and volume of venous procedures performed by graduating integrated vascular surgery residents and fellows in the United States.

Representation of Female Vascular Surgeons in National Clinical Trial Leadership
Female vascular surgeons (VS) constitute 14.6% of the workforce. Despite an increased pipeline of female VS, representation in leadership positions nationally has not maintained pace. We hypothesized that fewer female VS lead clinical trials in the United States for several vascular conditions germane to the specialty.
