Conclusion: These assays are suitable for routine diagnostic. The UltraFast NextGenPCR is the fastest with average time (30mins), followed by Agilent (2 hrs) and MassArray (6hrs). Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to examine, measure and compare results from different assays for SARS detection, evaluate and diagnose accurately, as well as being able to plan, organize and recommend a diagnostic procedure for diagnostic laboratory. Key words: SARS-CoV-2, RNA extraction, RT-PCR, limit of detection, quantification cycle, COVID-19, in vitro diagnostic tests, Agilent, Massarray, Ultrafast. [20] From t...

Effect of acupuncture on the endoplasmic reticulum stress IRE1-CHOP pathway and the expression levels of Bax and Bcl-2 protein as well as genes in pancreatic tissue of rats with diabetes mellitus
Conclusion There was endoplasmic reticulum stress in the pancreatic tissue of rats with STZ-induced diabetes mellitus, and IRE 1-CHOP signal pathway was the main pathway for inhibiting the endoplasmic reticulum stress in the pancreatic tissue. Acupuncture can improve the endoplasmic reticulum stress in pancreatic tissue, inhibit apoptosis genes, and protect the pancreatic tissue through IRE 1-CHOP signal pathway.

Characterizing the Personalized Microbiota Dynamics for Disease Classification by Individual-Specific Edge-Network Analysis
Conclusion There is growing interest in bolstering resistance to infections or diseases by altering the microbiota (Jia et al., 2008; Holmes, 2016; Waterman et al., 2016; Delzenne and Bindels, 2018). Here, we have presented a computational framework, i.e., iENA, to identify the key OTU features to distinguish normal and disease states, by extracting higher-order statistics and dynamic information from 16S rRNA (ribosomal RNA) gene sequencing data in a one-sample manner. As a proof-of-concept study, we carried out iENA on the temporal development data of twelve subjects (healthy adults) undergoing a challenge with intestin...

Using government data to understand the use and availability of medicines for hypertension and diabetes: lessons from Peru
ConclusionThe availability and proper dispensing of first-line medicines for hypertension and diabetes is an essential factor for sustainable and equitable treatment. Health care systems need to be prepared for forecasting the increasing demand of medicines for chronic diseases, but also to maintain effective medicine supply chains during humanitarian crisis like pandemics.

Delirium and Psychotic Symptoms Associated with Hyperglycemia in a Patient with Poorly controlled Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus
Conclusion Our case presentation should alert clinicians to the possibility of psychopathological changes caused by hyperglycemia in patients with poorly controlled DM2 (outside the setting of a hyperosmolar hyperglycemic state). Psychopathological decompensation in patients with DM can also lead to nonadherence with the OAD treatment regimen, which can then create a vicious cycle of medical and psychiatric illnesses. Increased awareness of a secondary form of delirium and psychotic symptoms elicited by hyperglycemia in the context of poorly controlled DM2 could lead to suitable and timely treatment with antipsychotic medi...

Does antidepressant medication use affect persistence with diabetes medicines?
ConclusionsThe results of this large population‐based study demonstrate that depression may be contributing to non‐compliance with medicines for diabetes and highlight the need to provide additional services to support appropriate medicine use in those initiating diabetes medicines with co‐morbid depression.
