S. maltophilia pneumonia: A case report
Publication date: 2018Source: Respiratory Medicine Case Reports, Volume 24Author(s): Mauro Geller, Carlos Pereira Nunes, Lisa Oliveira, Rafael NigriAbstractCase report of Community-acquired pneumonia in a male patient without co-morbidities. Empiric antibiotic treatment did not resolve the clinical picture of productive cough, and a chest computerized tomography and sputum culture with antibiogram were performed, identifying S. maltophilia infection with sensitivity to levofloxacin and sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim. Treatment with levofloxacin (500 mg/day for 15 days) resulted in resolution of the clinical picture.

Combination effects of modified Gingyo-san extract and antimicrobial agents
ConclusionOur results indicate that MGS interacts with levofloxacin to exert combination effects, although the direction of the effect (antagonistic or synergistic) depends on the bacterial species. In particular, these results suggest that MGS could attenuate the antimicrobial effects of levofloxacin by interaction with the efflux pump.

Complex analysis of the personalized pharmacotherapy in the management of COVID-19 patients and suggestions for applications of predictive, preventive, and personalized medicine attitude
ConclusionWe recommend that  particularly for patients with comorbidities to avoid serious DDIs, the predictive, preventive, and personalized medicine (PPPM, 3 PM) strategies have to be applied for COVID-19 treatment, and genetic tests should be performed for drugs with actionable pharmacogenes, especially in some ethnic g roups with a higher frequency of functional variations, as our analysis showed. We also suggest that drugs associated with higher ethnic genetic differences should be given priority in future pharmacogenetic studies for COVID-19 management. To facilitate translation of our results into clinical prac ...

BOSTON (CBS) – Fluoroquinolones are among the most widely prescribed type of antibiotics. Many patients say instead of helping them heal, however, these powerful drugs have made them sicker.
