Association Between Energy Balance and Metabolic Hormone Suppression During Ultra-Endurance Exercise.
Authors: Geesmann B, Gibbs JC, Mester J, Koehler K Abstract Ultra-endurance athletes often accumulate an energy deficit when engaging in ultra-endurance exercise, and upon completion of the exercise, they exhibit endocrine changes that are reminiscent of starvation. However, it remains unclear whether these endocrine changes are a result of the exercise per se or secondary to the energy deficit, and more importantly, whether these changes can be attenuated by increased dietary intake. Our goal was to assess the relationship between changes in key metabolic hormones following ultra-endurance exercise and measures of...

Alternate-Day Low Energy Availability During Spring Classics in Professional Cyclists.
CONCLUSIONS:: We are the first to report day-by-day periodization of energy and carbohydrate in a small sample of professional cyclists. We have also examined the logistics of conducting a field study under stressful conditions in which major cooperation of subjects and team management is needed. Our commentary around these challenges and possible solutions is a major novelty of the paper. PMID: 30860404 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Response of Blood Biomarkers to Sprint Interval Swimming.
CONCLUSIONS: The 2 swimming SIT sets induced increases in most of the biochemical markers studied. The 2-fold difference between sets in distance did not differentiate the effects of sprint interval exercise on most biochemical parameters. Thus, low-volume SIT sets seem to be effective stimuli for competitive swimmers. PMID: 32963121 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Novel Markers of Recovery From Overtraining Syndrome: The EROS-LONGITUDINAL Study.
CONCLUSION: After a 12-week intervention, athletes affected by actual OTS disclosed a mix of non-, partial, and full recovery processes, demonstrating that remission of OTS is as complex as its occurrence. PMID: 33406484 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

The Treatment with Complementary and Alternative Traditional Chinese Medicine for Menstrual Disorders with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome
Evid Based Complement Alternat Med. 2021 May 17;2021:6678398. doi: 10.1155/2021/6678398. eCollection 2021.ABSTRACTPolycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a frequent gynecological female endocrinopathy, characterized by chronic anovulation, hyperandrogenism, and insulin resistance (IR). Menstrual disorders are one of the main clinical manifestations of PCOS. Other symptoms include hirsutism and/acne. At present, the treatment of PCOS with irregular menstruation is mainly based on oral contraceptives, but there are some side effects and adverse reactions. In recent years, more and more attention has been paid to the complementar...

Effects of electroacupuncture and Chinese kidney-nourishing medicine on polycystic ovary syndrome in obese patients.
CONCLUSION: Acupuncture combined with medicine is better than just electroacupuncture for obese PCOS patients by improving obesity-related indexes, insulin sensitivity, and APN level. This indicates that acupuncture-medicine therapy is worth clinical popularization. PMID: 24024320 [PubMed - in process]

Diabetes remission after a lifestyle-medicine intervention on type 2 diabetes in lean and obese Chinese subjects: a prospective study
CONCLUSIONS: Lifestyle-medicine interventions may have increased effectiveness in controlling mild T2DM as compared with the oral antidiabetic-based treatment; unexpectedly, there seems no further improvement in lean relative to obese patients. Three in five subjects could achieve diabetes remission though the lifestyle-medicine intervention regardless of whether their BMI was below or above 25 kg/m2.PMID:35523754 | DOI:10.21037/apm-22-369

Impact of Chinese Herbal Medicine on Glucolipid Metabolic Outcomes in Women with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
CONCLUSION: Compared with the placebo group, Chinese herbal medicine had positive effects on glucolipid metabolism in women with PCOS. Chinese herbal medicine had a positive effect on lipid metabolism when the control group was metformin, but no effect on glucose metabolism. These findings need to be verified in high-quality, large-sample, randomized controlled trials in the future.PMID:36212945 | PMC:PMC9546672 | DOI:10.1155/2022/3245663

Insulin Management in Clinical Nuclear Medicine Studies: An Update of Newer Management Approaches, and Proposed Solutions
Conclusion: Introduction of newer agents in the management of diabetes opens up not only newer challenges but also opportunities in optimizing patient preparation for Nuclear Medicine studies with PET using metabolic tracers, and Gastric Emptying. Some ideas are proposed to improve, or provide an alternate to current societal management guidelines. Future clinical trials are needed to further refine these ideas.

Successful treatment of latent autoimmune diabetes in adults with Traditional Chinese Medicine: a case report.
CONCLUSION: Because the initial presentation of LADA is similar to Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus and examination is not in common use, misdiagnosis is not rare. Once LADA is diagnosed, the therapy must be adjusted. This case report indicated that Traditional Chinese Medicine might be an alternative treatment for LADA. PMID: 24660609 [PubMed - in process]
