Efficacy of a Tobacco Quitline among Adult Cancer Survivors
Conclusion Our results are consistent with other studies indicating that traditional smoking cessation interventions are ineffective among cancer survivors. More over, self-reports of cessation were unreliable in cancer survivors participating in a quitline intervention, indicating that future studies should include biochemical verification. Given the importance of smoking cessation among cancer survivors and low cessation rates in the current study, it may be necessary to design alternative interventions for this population. Possible regulation of cigarettes not likely to significantly change US illicit tobacco market
(National Academy of Sciences) Although there is insufficient evidence to draw firm conclusions about how the US illicit tobacco market would respond to any new regulations that modify cigarettes -- for example, by lowering nicotine content -- limited evidence suggests that demand for illicit versions of conventional cigarettes would be modest, says a new congressionally mandated report from the National Research Council and Institute of Medicine.

The Implementation of a Tobacco Use Registry in an Academic Family Practice
Conclusions: The tobacco use decision support tool resulted in an increase in provider confidence in prescribing cessation medications without lengthening the duration of patients' visits, and the tool continues to be used routinely in the practice 2 years after introduction, indicating sustainability. You Can't Hide the Bridges.
Abstract After witnessing a man commit suicide during residency, I struggled to reconcile the trauma itself, my own competence, and multiple boundary issues I was exploring as a newly minted doctor. My powerlessness in the face of inevitability challenged my sense of capability to fulfill the very calling that brought me into medicine in the beginning-to help fix important problems in the lives of my patients. In the aftermath, I chose to remain connected to the experience in the way I honor him still today. PMID: 25755041 [PubMed - in process]
