How Competitive are Integrated Vascular Surgery Residency Programs? A Ten-Year Comparison Using a Normalized Competitive Index
Integrated vascular surgery residency (VS) programs have increased in popularity and offer an accelerated track compared to the traditional fellowship pathway. We sought to create a simple metric for medical students to better assess the competitiveness of VS training programs compared to general surgery (GS) programs.

Vascular Surgery Integrated Resident Selection Criteria in the Step 1 Pass/Fail Era: A National Survey of Program Directors
Vascular surgery integrated residency (VSIR) programs are highly competitive; however, criteria for resident selection remain opaque and nonstandardized. The already unclear selection criteria will be further impacted by the impending transition of the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) step 1 from numeric scores to a binary pass/fail outcome. The purpose of this study is to investigate the historical and anticipated evaluation rubric of VSIR applicants.

Understanding Radiation Exposure and Improving Safety for Vascular Surgery Trainees
Despite having a robust radiation safety education procedures and policies, we discovered that trainees at our ACGME approved integrated vascular surgery residency and fellowship program were exceeding yearly radiation exposure limits. This quality improvement project describes identification of root causes and implementation of policies to improve radiation safety education, oversite and ultimately exposure levels amongst our trainees.

Evaluation of vascular clinical competences with Objective Structured Clinical Examinations
Since the French reform of the 2nd cycle of medical studies, the evaluation of clinical competences is partly done with simulation. The Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) is the selected method and will represent 30% of the evaluation for residency. This work presents the specificities of OSCEs in vascular surgery and medicine for the 4th year students.

Integrated-Vascular Surgery Applicants' Perspectives of Virtual Residency Interviews During the COVID-19 Application Cycle
A cross sectional survey study revealed that most integrated vascular surgery applicants preferred remote interviews, and agreed that remote interviews allowed applicants to properly gauge a residency program. This data suggests virtual interview format is suitable for future residency application cycles.

Integrated vascular surgery applicants' perspectives of virtual residency interviews during the coronavirus disease 2019 application cycle
In agreement with Association of American Medical Colleges guidelines, the 2020 to 2021 integrated vascular surgery (I-VS) residency interviews were conducted virtually. In the present study, we collected data about the virtual interview process from the applicant's perspective, including preferences for interview format and the virtual resources they found most helpful.

Impact of Integrated Vascular Surgery Residency Training Pathway and Professional Development Time on Career Choice and Research Productivity
The limited availability of academic surgery positions has led to increased competition for these jobs. Integrated vascular surgery residency (IVSR) allows for earlier specialization, with some programs providing professional development time (PDT). We hypothesized that IVSR and PDT lead to academic employment and increased research productivity.

Medical Residency Training in Clinical Pathology/ Laboratory Medicine at the Paulista School of Medicine, Federal University of São Paulo
This study shows that SCA presents, in addition to genetic factors, non-genetic factors involved in the severity of the disease and its clinical manifestations. Studies are needed that may contribute to the understanding of the clinical heterogeneity of SCA.RESUMEN La anemia de c élulas falciformes (ACF) es una enfermedad genética que causa importantes manifestaciones clínicas debido a la anemia hemolítica crónica y a la oclusión vascular. El objetivo de este estudio fue reportar un caso raro de gemelas monocigóticas con diagnóstico de ACF, presentando una caracterí stica clínica diferente. Se realizó una entrev...

Vascular Surgery Curriculum for Medical Students: A National Targeted Needs Assessment
CONCLUSIONS: This study identified the lack of an existing structured curriculum for medical students, the desire for a standardized curriculum, and key topics and experiences that are felt to be important for students to cover. With this information in hand, vascular educators have the potential to enhance the learning experience of medical students rotating through the service by developing a standardized curriculum.PMID:34688874 | DOI:10.1016/j.avsg.2021.08.040
