Exploring Psychedelic Microdosing
Recently I’ve taken an interest in microdosing, specifically with magic mushrooms. I began learning about it a few months ago and then learned even more at the Psychedelic Science conference in June. I’ve also had some recent conversations with people I know who’ve been microdosing, all of them reporting positive long-term effects. Most use mushrooms for microdosing, although one prefers microdosing with LSD. The point of microdosing is to take a very small amount of a psychedelic substance in order to access some neurological gains without any obvious psychedelic effects or impairments. Those gains can be both sh...

Cepharanthine and Oral Lichen Planus Efficacy (COLE) study: protocol for a multicentre randomised controlled study assessing the efficacy and safety of cepharanthine with topical corticosteroids in oral lichen planus
Introduction Oral lichen planus (OLP) is a chronic, inflammatory oral condition leading to a range of symptoms from mild discomfort to severe pain, affecting patients’ quality of life. Standard therapy involves the use of topical corticosteroids, although some patients respond insufficiently or develop resistance to therapy. We aim to explore if adding cepharanthine, an herbal extract from Stephania cepharantha Hayata, can enhance the efficacy of corticosteroid therapy in symptomatic OLP. Methods and analysis This open-label, parallel-group, multi-centre, randomised controlled study will be conducted at three Japane...

Conversion surgery after successful response to chemotherapy (S-1  + oxaliplatin + nivolumab) in a patient with stage IV gastric cancer with peritoneal metastasis (P1, CY1): a case report
AbstractWe here present a case report of a patient with Stage IV gastric cancer with peritoneal metastasis (P1, CY1) who underwent conversion surgery after a successful response to chemotherapy (S-1  + oxaliplatin + nivolumab). The patient was a woman in her 60 s. Her chief complaint was epigastric pain. Upper gastrointestinal endoscopy showed Type 4 advanced carcinoma on the lesser curvature of the gastric body. Biopsy showed Group 5 (poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma) and HER2 was negative. Staging laparoscopy revealed seeding in the round ligament of the liver (P1) and adenocarcinoma cells in ascites (CY1). ...

Taking the first step: protocol for a cluster randomised implementation trial comparing strategies on access to exercise programmes for people with knee osteoarthritis
BMJ Open. 2023 Aug 11;13(8):e071045. doi: 10.1136/bmjopen-2022-071045.ABSTRACTINTRODUCTION: This cluster randomised implementation trial will assess the effect of two behavioural change interventions on the proportion of people with structural knee osteoarthritis (OA) referred and attending exercise-based professionals (physiotherapists and exercise physiologists). The interventions are designed to increase awareness of guidelines, benefits and access pathways for exercise therapy. We hypothesise either strategy will result in more people with knee OA being referred and attending physiotherapy/exercise physiology than curr...

A distal ileum malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumour after abdominal radiation therapy: case report of a rare tumour
AbstractMalignant peripheral nerve sheath tumours (MPNSTs) are malignant tumours arising from a peripheral nerve or displaying nerve sheath differentiation. Most MPNSTs are found on the head, body trunk and extremities, whereas cases in the gastrointestinal are extremely rare. About half arise in neurofibromatosis type 1 patients and 10% arise post-irradiation. This is probably the first small bowel MPNST post-radiation therapy case reported. A 72-year-old female who received radiotherapy 30  years ago for cervical cancer was admitted with progressive abdominal pain and weight loss. Computed tomography revealed a mass wit...
