Adverse Events of Light-Assisted Hair Removal: An Updated Review
CONCLUSION: Optical incidents can be systematically avoided. Cutaneous complications are usually related to professional errors and patient characteristics. Better knowledge of laser physics and adequate training of laser operators are key recommendations to avoid undesirable side effects. Safety recommendations help prevent most of the reported complications.PMID:37272371 | DOI:10.1177/12034754231174852

Clinical pathologic conference case 1: a multilocular radiolucency of the right mandible
A 63-year-old female presented to her oral surgeon for evaluation of a right mandibular lesion. She reported recent onset swelling and pain without associated neurosensory deficits or changes in occlusion. Her past medical history was significant for hypercholesterolemia, hypertension, and osteoporosis, which were under pharmacologic control. Her social history was neither remarkable for tobacco use nor alcohol consumption.Extraoral examination revealed mild right-sided facial swelling associated with a palpable mass of the inferior border of the mandible.

Acute exercise as active inference in chronic musculoskeletal pain, effects on gait kinematics and muscular activity in patients and healthy participants: a study protocol for a randomised controlled laboratory trial
Introduction Chronic musculoskeletal pain is a highly prevalent, complex and distressing condition that may negatively affect all domains of life. In view of an active inference framework, and resting on the concept of allostasis, human movement per se becomes a prerequisite for health and well-being while chronic pain becomes a sign of a system unable to attenuate an allostatic load. Previous studies on different subgroups of chronic pain conditions have demonstrated alterations in gait kinematics and muscle activity, indicating shared disturbances in the motor system from long-term allostatic load. We hypothesise that su...

Successful management of a rare case of gallbladder neuroendocrine carcinoma with tumor thrombi
AbstractA gallbladder neuroendocrine neoplasm (GB ‑NEN) is a bizarre heterogeneous neoplasm arising from neuroendocrine cells, which are present in minimal amounts on the GB mucosa either due to conversion of undifferentiated stem cells, chronic inflammation and resulting in pathological metaplasia or switching of GB adenocarcinoma to neuroendocr ine one. Among all the GB malignancies, GB-NEN accounts for approximately 2.1%. A 41-year-old lady presented with right upper abdomen pain and distension for 2 weeks. Contrast CT showed heterogeneously enhancing wall thickening involving fundus-body of the GB with large exophyt...

Sensory training system for use at home by people with complex regional pain syndrome in England: protocol for a proof-of-concept study
Introduction Complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) is a disabling and distressing chronic pain condition characterised by a range of sensory, motor, autonomic and trophic symptoms. UK guidelines recommend therapy interventions to help normalise touch perception through self-administered tactile and thermal desensitisation activities. Interventions have been developed, aiming to help individuals broaden their sensory experience, thereby relieving chronic pain. However, therapy-led interventions often experience practical constraints and poor adherence. In response, a sensory training system (STS) device has been designed fo...

Comparison of the effects of remimazolam tosylate and propofol on postoperative delirium among older adults undergoing major non-cardiac surgery: protocol for a randomised controlled trial
Introduction Postoperative delirium (POD) is a common cognitive disturbance in elderly individuals that is characterised by acute and fluctuating impairments in attention and awareness. Remimazolam tosylate is a novel, ultrashort-acting benzodiazepine, and there is limited evidence of its correlation with the incidence of early POD. The aim of this study is to evaluate the incidence of POD after anaesthesia induction and maintenance with remimazolam tosylate or propofol in elderly patients undergoing major non-cardiac surgery. Methods and analysis This is a single-centre, randomised controlled trial. 636 elderly patients ...

Effect of rectus sheath anaesthesia versus thoracic epidural analgesia on postoperative recovery quality after elective open abdominal surgery in a French regional hospital: the study protocol of a randomised controlled QoR-RECT-CATH trial
Introduction Enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) protocols increase patient well-being while significantly reducing mortality, costs and length-of-stay after surgery. A key component is multimodal analgesia that prevents postoperative pain and facilitates early refeeding and mobilisation. Thoracic epidural analgesia (TEA) was long the gold standard for locoregional anaesthesia in anterior abdominal wall surgery. However, newer wall-block techniques such as rectus-sheath block (RSB) may be preferable because they are less invasive and may provide equivalent analgesia with fewer side effects. Since the evidence base remai...

Mapping the Evidence for Opioid-Mediated Changes in Malignancy and Chemotherapeutic Efficacy: Protocol for a Scoping Review
CONCLUSIONS: The findings of this scoping review will provide a comprehensive description of the consequences of prescription opioids on malignancy and its treatment. By incorporating preclinical and clinical data, this scoping review will invite novel comparisons across study types that could inform new basic, translational, and clinical studies regarding risks and benefits of opioid use among patients with cancer.INTERNATIONAL REGISTERED REPORT IDENTIFIER (IRRID): PRR1-10.2196/38167.PMID:37213193 | DOI:10.2196/38167

Laparoscopic versus ultrasound-guided transversus abdominis plane block for postoperative pain management in minimally invasive colorectal surgery: a meta-analysis protocol
IntroductionTransversus abdominis plane block (TAPB) is now commonly administered for postoperative pain control and reduced opioid consumption in patients undergoing major colorectal surgeries, such as colorectal cancer, diverticular disease, and inflammatory bowel disease resection. However, there remain several controversies about the effectiveness and safety of laparoscopic TAPB compared to ultrasound-guided TAPB. Therefore, the aim of this study is to integrate both direct and indirect comparisons to identify a more effective and safer TAPB approach.Materials and methodsSystematic electronic literature surveillance wi...
