BOSTON (AP) – The Ivy League became the first Division I conference this year to cancel all winter sports, including men’s and women’s basketball. The decision Thursday came 13 days before the scheduled start of the college basketball season. The league had decided this past summer, when it canceled fall sports, not to allow any of its sports to start play before early December. “Regrettably, the current trends regarding transmission of the COVID-19 virus and subsequent protocols that must be put in place are impeding our strong desire to return to intercollegiate athletics competition in a safe man...

Teaching evidence-based medicine in Mexico: a systematic review of medical doctor curriculums at a national level
Conclusion In Mexico, EBM teaching is limited to only one of five curriculums with minimal curricular value. A comprehensive curricular review is necessary across programmes to incorporate EBM as a first step to improve medical education and, consequently, public health. We call to action through an online, collaborative platform with several applications to optimise teaching of EBM. Review protocol registration The systematic review protocol is excluded from the International Prospective Register of Systematic Reviews since this platform only accepts systematic reviews with health-related outcomes. Review protocol regist...

(Lifespan) Dina Morrissey, M.D., M.P.H., research associate for the Injury Prevention Center at Hasbro Children's Hospital, recently led a study that found that while compliance with mandated provisions in youth sports concussion laws was high among Rhode Island Interscholastic League high schools, compliance with recommended concussion protocols was very limited. The study suggests that more concussion related standards and protocols should be written into law in order to raise compliance rates among youth sports groups.

Towards a meaningful self-management intervention to improve long-term prognosis for adolescents with patellofemoral pain (PhD Academy Award)
What did I do? This doctoral thesis (higher doctorate) consists of nine papers that were written during a period of 10 years. The aim of this thesis was to apply the biopsychosocial model to understand and improve management of adolescent patellofemoral pain, one of the most common overused, sports-related complaints in adolescents. Why did I do it? Prior to this thesis, there was a dearth of evidence surrounding adolescent patellofemoral pain. This knowledge gap impeded evidence-based treatment of this common condition that affects 6%–7% of adolescents in schools and up twice as many sports-active adolescents. How d...

Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted using baseline data from the Action Schools! BC Dissemination study cohort (n = 1421; 9.90 (0.58) y; 736 girls, 685 boy...
