Postdoctoral position at Center for Language Science, Pennsylvania State University
The Center for Language Science (CLS) at The Pennsylvania State University (http://cls.psu.edu) invites applications for a postdoctoral position. The CLS is home to a cross-disciplinary research program that includes the NSF training program, ‘Partnerships for International Research and Education (PIRE): Translating cognitive and brain science in the laboratory and field to language learning environments’ that was awarded to The Pennsylvania State University and the University of California, Riverside. The program provides training i n translational research on language learning and bilingualism that includes an intern...

Effects of total fat intake on bodyweight in children.
CONCLUSIONS: We were unable to reach firm conclusions. Limited evidence from three trials that randomised children to dietary counselling or education to lower total fat intake (30% or less TE) versus usual or modified fat intake, but with no intention to reduce weight, showed small reductions in body mass index, total- and LDL-cholesterol at some time points with lower fat intake compared to controls. There were no consistent effects on weight, high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol or height. Associations in cohort studies that related total fat intake to later measures of body fatness in children were inconsistent a...

The Role of Statistical Learning in Understanding and Treating Spoken Language Outcomes in Deaf Children With Cochlear Implants
Conclusions We suggest that understanding how statistical learning contributes to spoken language development is important for understanding some of the difficulties that children who are deaf and use cochlear implants might face and argue that it may be beneficial to develop novel language interventions that focus specifically on improving core foundational statistical learning skills.

Ethnography in Nutrition and Dietetics Research: A Systematic Review
Publication date: Available online 20 August 2018Source: Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and DieteticsAuthor(s): Ella Ottrey, Jessica Jong, Judi PorterAbstractEthnography is a qualitative research approach used to learn about people and their culture. There is a need to explore the application and use of ethnographic methodology in nutrition and dietetics research to inform future research and practice. Our aim was to examine the extent, range, nature, and contribution of ethnographic methodology in nutrition and dietetics research. Eight electronic databases were searched using a defined search strategy until November...

Bodies for Anatomy Education in Medical Schools: An Overview of the Sources of Cadavers Worldwide
The International Federation of Associations of Anatomists (IFAA) recommended in 2012 that only donated bodies be used for anatomy teaching and research. However, in many countries around the world, anatomists still depend on bodies that do not stem from voluntary donations by the deceased but, rather, are “unclaimed.” A broad search of the literature was conducted to produce a baseline overview of the sources of cadavers used for anatomy teaching in undergraduate medical curricula on a global scale. Information from the literature search was supplemented with data from a 2016–2017 survey of selected senior local ana...

Embedded Librarianship in Research in Nigerian Universities: Practices and Sources of Practice Knowledge
Publication date: Available online 19 October 2018Source: The Journal of Academic LibrarianshipAuthor(s): Samaila Inuwa, A. AbrizahAbstractAcademic librarians have begun to take the reference desk services outside their library premises to raise a new level of importance within and beyond their communities. Through embedded librarianship (EL), librarians move from a supporting role into partnership with their clientele, enabling librarians to develop stronger connections and relationship with those they serve. Academic librarians in Nigerian universities are given full faculty status and they have the responsibilities for ...

Education-service integration in the context of Brazilian medical schools: an integrative review

The Maximum Matching Problem
ConclusionMaximum matchings find their way into a few important cheminformatics and computational chemistry contexts. To the untrained observer, the maximum matching problem might appear trivial. Indeed, in the case of bipartite graphs it is. However, the need to deal with odd cycles for general graphs vastly increases the complexity of the solution. This article doesn't describe such a solution in detail, but a future article will.

IJERPH, Vol. 16, Pages 1212: Childhood Obesity Prevention in Africa: A Systematic Review of Intervention Effectiveness and Implementation
an Sluijs Childhood obesity is of increasing concern in many parts of Africa. We conducted a systematic search and review of published literature on behavioural childhood obesity prevention interventions. A literature search identified peer-reviewed literature from seven databases, and unindexed African journals, including experimental studies targeting children age 2–18 years in African countries, published in any language since 1990. All experimental designs were eligible; outcomes of interest were both behavioural (physical activity, dietary behaviours) and anthropometric (weight, body mass index, body...

Perception, attitude, knowledge and learning style preference on challenges of antimicrobial resistance and antimicrobial overuse among first year doctors in training and final year medical students
ConclusionAMR and antimicrobial overuse in Thailand are well recognized challenges. However, final-year MS and first-year DIT have very limited knowledge of these important subjects. Customized education methods should be carefully chosen to ensure that future general practitioners and subspecialists are adequately trained.

Cinematic Rendering in Anatomy: A Crossover Study Comparing a Novel 3D Reconstruction Technique to Conventional Computed Tomography
AbstractIntegration of medical imaging into preclinical anatomy courses is already underway in many medical schools. However, interpretation of two ‐dimensional grey scale images is difficult and conventional volume rendering techniques provide only images of limited quality. In this regard, a more photorealistic visualization provided by Cinematic Rendering (CR) may be more suitable for anatomical education. A randomized, two‐period crosso ver study was conducted from July to December 2018, at the University Hospital of Erlangen, Germany to compare CR and conventional computed tomography (CT) imaging for speed and com...
