Management of post cholecystectomy vascular injuries
ConclusionVascular injury is an uncommon complication of cholecystectomy with catastrophic outcome if not managed timely and properly. Adequate surgeon training, keeping the possibility of aberrant vasculobiliary anatomy in all cases, and proper surgical technique is crucial for prevention of such injuries. However in such an event, proper documentation and referral to tertiary centre will help in decreasing morbidity and further litigation.

Irving Fisher ' s Search for Stable Money: What We Can Learn
ConclusionIn thinking about monetary alternatives, there is no better place to start then a review of Irving Fisher ’s work, especiallyThe Purchasing Power of Money.   His insights can guide all those interested in improving the current government fiat money regime and in avoiding the mistakes of the past.  The Fed, in particular, ought to listen to what Fisher had to say about sound money—that is, money of stable purchasing power.  There is no perfect mone tary system, but one needs to understand what a “good system” would look like in order to move in the right direction.  A deep knowledge of monetary theory,...

Advanced glycation end products (AGEs) and their soluble receptors (sRAGE) as early predictors of reno-vascular complications in patients with uncontrolled type 2 diabetes mellitus
ConclusionWe found an association between AGEs/sRAGE ratio and urinary albumin/serum creatinine ration in T2DM patients with reno-vascular complications; providing evidence that serum AGEs and sRAGE can be considered as predictors of vascular complications in uncontrolled T2DM patients.

Issues in teaching vascular anatomy: Thoughts and Suggestions from the Clinician ’s Point of View
ABSTRACTThe role of anatomy in modern curricula is under reform due to competency of other rapidly evolving subjects and the rapid evolution of several practical aspects and applications dictating modernization of teaching methods as well as of teaching demands. Moreover, modern practice of medicine has put the arterial and vascular system in the center of numerous minimally invasive techniques. Therefore, regardless of their specialty, most doctors should have a very clear and precise knowledge of the vascular anatomy and the basic access techniques from the early years. This viewpoint commentary reflects the experience o...

Understanding Visual Search Patterns of Dermatologists Assessing Pigmented Skin Lesions Before and After Online Training
Abstract The goal of this investigation was to explore the feasibility of characterizing the visual search characteristics of dermatologists evaluating images corresponding to single pigmented skin lesions (PSLs) (close-ups and dermoscopy) as a venue to improve training programs for dermoscopy. Two Board-certified dermatologists and two dermatology residents participated in a phased study. In phase I, they viewed a series of 20 PSL cases ranging from benign nevi to melanoma. The close-up and dermoscopy images of the PSL were evaluated sequentially and rated individually as benign or malignant, while eye position ...

NICE Evidence Search: Student Peers' Views on their Involvement as Trainers in Peer-based Information Literacy Training
This article reports on focus groups conducted with student champions. Findings suggest that champions believe that they have learnt a lot about information searching and evaluation from their engagement as champions, and have developed their teaching, planning and organisational skills. They now reported using Evidence Search as a first port-of-call for information for an assignment, although they still used Google. Students' choice of queries for their training session was influenced by their recent experience with study units or placements. In addition, many acted as advocates, making recommendations to friends (for stu...

Inpatient venous access practices: PICC culture and the kidney patient.
CONCLUSIONS: PICC placement and invasion of the nondominant arm are both frequent in patients with abnormal kidney function, in spite of guidelines discouraging their use. The rate of PICC is higher than that of patients with normal kidney function. Current vascular access practices have substantial potential to affect future fistula rates. Effective vein protection may require participation of the entire medical community. PMID: 25634154 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Object–scene relationships vary the magnitude of target prevalence effects in visual search.
Efficiency of visual search in real-world tasks is affected by several factors, including scene context and target prevalence. Observers are more efficient at detecting target objects in congruent locations, and less efficient at detecting rare targets. Although target prevalence and placement often covary, previous research has investigated context and prevalence effects independently. We conducted 2 experiments to explore the potential interaction between scene context and target prevalence effects. In Experiment 1, we varied target prevalence (high, low) and context (congruent, incongruent), and, for congruent contexts,...
