Risk factors contributing to cardiac events following general and vascular surgery
ConclusionPostoperative CE are associated with significant morbidity and mortality. Identified predictors of CE should allow for adequate risk stratification and optimization of perioperative surgical management.

Can a Machine Learn from Radiologists ’ Visual Search Behaviour and Their Interpretation of Mammograms—a Deep-Learning Study
AbstractVisual search behaviour and the interpretation of mammograms have been studied for errors in breast cancer detection. We aim to ascertain whether machine-learning models can learn about radiologists ’ attentional level and the interpretation of mammograms. We seek to determine whether these models are practical and feasible for use in training and teaching programmes. Eight radiologists of varying experience levels in reading mammograms reviewed 120 two-view digital mammography cases (59 canc ers). Their search behaviour and decisions were captured using a head-mounted eye-tracking device and software allowing th...

Educational Value of an Intern-Directed Vascular Access Team at a Community Teaching Hospital
This study evaluates the efficacy, safety, and educational value for such a team. The first year of DIVA team results were followed from May 2019 to April 2020. The value of the experience for IR-bound residents vs. categorical general surgery residents (GS) was compared. 239 patients were evaluated by the DIVA team for a total of 4.3 consults per week. General surgery residents performed an additional estimated 2.5 consults per week. For IR residents, 218/230 (94.8%) PIV and 8/9 (88.9%) midline attempts were successful. There were no technical complications that required additional procedural interventions. All residents ...

Search Club: Using peer support to develop search skills and share knowledge in a specialist NHS team
AbstractThe newly-formed Knowledge Management team at Health Education England (HEE) established an internal “Search Club” for their Knowledge Specialists to share good practice, exchange ideas, and discuss approaches to developing search strategies. The article describes how this was initiated and run online. The sessions improved the Knowledge Management team skills, and gave them an opportunity to s hare and learn from each other. A further benefit has been the creation of resources such as a “synonyms bank”, search strategies, and a bank of grey literature sources. These reduce duplication of effort, save time,...

Popliteal endarterectomy for isolated popliteal arterial occlusive disease: A retrospective review study
CONCLUSION: In carefully selected patients, popliteal endarterectomy is a durable open surgical alternative to bypass, which preserves vein conduits with short operative times, low complication rates, and excellent long-term patency.PMID:35331060 | DOI:10.1177/17085381211058575

Optimization Algorithm for Ideological and Political Curriculum Environment in Colleges Using Data Analysis and Neighborhood Search Operator
J Environ Public Health. 2022 Sep 16;2022:5833589. doi: 10.1155/2022/5833589. eCollection 2022.ABSTRACTIn the context of the new era, the distinctive function of BD (big data) analysis and prediction also introduces a new way of thinking to university IPE (ideological and political education), broadens the domain of university IPE, and enhances the curricular offerings of IPE universities. In order to enhance the intelligence and personalization of the intelligent teaching system, this paper describes in detail the design and implementation processes for each component of the system. It also uses the association mining rul...

P-223 * a cheap and practical artificial model for minimally invasive vascular dissection training
Conclusions This is a cheap and novel model for VATS vascular dissection training. None of our residents had real VATS vessel dissection experience, thus they needed training and there was improvement in dissection times. The risk of tear in the balloon and an adherent balloon to the sponge forms an environment similar to real VATS vessel dissection. Disclosure All authors have declared no conflicts of interest.

Considering that dual antiplatelet therapy with aspirin and clopidogrel now is so commonly prescribed to atherosclerotic patients, vascular surgeons worldwide are still facing the issue of the optimal perioperative treatment of these patients on a regular basis. On the basis of a large prospective study of patients undergoing major vascular procedures, we showed that maintaining clopidogrel up to the time of surgery is not associated with increased bleeding complications or transfusion requirements. Therefore, we believe that vascular surgeons must become familiar with procedures performed in patients receiving clopidogrel...
