Vascular surgery triage during the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic
The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has resulted in a marked increase in hospital usage, medical resource scarcity, and rationing of surgical procedures. This has created the need for strategies to triage surgical patients. We have described our experience using the American College of Surgeons (ACS) COVID-19 guidelines for triage of vascular surgery patients in an academic surgery practice.

Feasibility and Acceptability of Virtual Mock Oral Examinations for Senior Vascular Surgery Trainees and Implications for the Certifying Exam
The COVID-19 pandemic resulted in the cancellation of in-person testing across the country. We sought to understand the feasibility of conducting virtual oral examinations as well as solicit opinions of vascular surgery program directors regarding the use of virtual platforms to conduct both low stakes mock oral examinations with their trainees and potentially “real” high stakes certifying examinations (CE) moving forward.

Factors Influencing Medical Student Choices in the Integrated Vascular Surgery Match: Implications for Future Post-pandemic Residency Matches
Integrated Vascular Surgery Residency (IVSR) is among the most competitive specialties, but little is known about the applicant perspective. The COVID-19 outbreak impacted the 2021 IVSR match due to travel restrictions. We sought to better understand pre-pandemic applicant recruitment strategies, logistics of away rotations, and the residency interview process to identify areas for improvement in the application process.

Vascular virtual interviews for the 2020-2021 National Residency Matching Program during the COVID-19 pandemic early experience and lessons learned
The COVID-19 pandemic has profoundly impacted our traditional daily interactions. Vascular residency interviews are a part of the national matching programs. Programs need to seek and find the best candidates, while at the same time the candidates need to make assessments and rank choices about the programs for the match to be successful. This COVID-19 match-year offered the adoption of virtual interviews as one approach to mediate and manage the spread of COVID-19. Traditionally, residency and fellowship training program applications have been on-site and in-person interviews.

Vascular surgeons are health disparities doctors
As vascular surgeons, we take pride in a specialty that treats arterial, venous, and lymphatic pathology all over the body. We differ from other surgical specialists in that we have long-term continuity with our patients. Oftentimes we may be the only physician a patient has seen for some time, a situation emphasized during the coronavirus disease  2019 global pandemic when so many offices were shuttered. As a specialized field, we also see patients from all walks of life.
