Prevalence of Cutaneous Leishmaniasis in Iran (2000-2016): A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis Study.
In conclusion, CL is an endemic disease in Iran, and its prevalence is largely affected by geographical locations and regional customs. Appropriate preventing measures should be considered to decrease the incidence of CL in Iran. PMID: 32479248 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

How climate change can affect cholera incidence and prevalence? A systematic review.
Abstract Although the number of cholera infection decreased universally, climate change can potentially affect both incidence and prevalence rates of disease in endemic regions. There is considerable consistent evidence, explaining the associations between cholera and climatic variables. However, it is essentially required to compare and interpret these relationships globally. The aim of the present study was to carry out a systematic review in order to identify and appraise the literature concerning the relationship between nonanthropogenic climatic variabilities such as extreme weather- and ocean-related variabl...

A Comprehensive Review of Meningococcal Disease Burden in India
ConclusionMeningococcal disease is prevalent in India but remains grossly underestimated and under-reported. Available literature largely presents outbreak data related to serogroup A disease; however, non-A serogroup disease cases have been reported. Reliable epidemiologic data are urgently needed to inform the true burden of endemic disease. Further research into the significance of meningococcal disease burden can be used to improve public health policy in India.Fig.  1Plain language summary

Tafenoquine for preventing relapse in people with Plasmodium vivax malaria.
CONCLUSIONS: TQ 300 mg single dose prevents relapses after clinically parasitologically confirmed P vivax malaria compared to no antihypnozoite treatment, and with no difference detected in studies comparing it to PQ to date. However, the inability to differentiate a true relapse from a recurrence in the available studies may affect these estimates. The drug is untested in children and in people with G6PD deficiency. Single-dose treatment is an important practical advantage compared to using PQ for the same purpose without an overall increase in adverse events in non-pregnant, non-G6PD-deficient adults. Rapid diagnostic tests for Plasmodium vivax malaria in endemic countries.
CONCLUSIONS: The CareStart Malaria Pf/Pv Combo test was found to be highly sensitive and specific in comparison to microscopy for detecting P vivax in ambulatory healthcare in endemic settings, with moderate-certainty evidence. The number of studies included in this review was limited to 10 studies and we were able to estimate the accuracy of 2 out of 6 RDT brands included, the CareStart Malaria Pf/Pv Combo test and the Falcivax Device Rapid test. Thus, the differences in sensitivity and specificity between all the RDT brands could not be assessed. More high-quality studies in endemic field settings are needed to assess an...

Management of complex liver cystic hydatidosis: challenging benign diseases for the hepatic surgeon: A case series report from an endemic area
Hydatid cysts of the liver are benign lesions which require a wide range of surgical strategies for their treatment. We hypothesized that cysts larger than 15 cm, or compressing main vascular structures, or located in both hemilivers should be considered, as well as complicated cysts, in the category of complex hydatid cysts. In a retrospective study including 55 patients, we evaluated the characteristics of complex hydatid cysts, and compared surgical outcomes between patients operated on for complex cysts (Complex Group) and those operated on for non-complex cysts (non-Complex Group). In the Complex Group, 19% of...

Clinical predictors of tubercular retinal vasculitis in a high-endemic country
Conclusion: The presence of healed or active subvascular lesions, focal vascular tortuosity, and occlusive vasculitis could be predictive of tubercular etiology in retinal vasculitis.

Synthesis, Antileishmanial Activity and in silico Studies of Aminoguanidine Hydrazones (AGH) and Thiosemicarbazones (TSC) Against Leishmania chagasi Amastigotes
CONCLUSION: The promising antileishmanial activity of three AGH's and three TSC's was characterized. These compounds presented antileishmanial activity compared with PTD, showing IC50 values ranged from 0.6 to 7.27 μM, and satisfactory SI values. Further pharmacological assays involving other Leishmania strains are under progress, which will help to choose the best hits for in vivo experiments.PMID:33593264 | DOI:10.2174/1573406417666210216154428
