Efficacy of Patient-Controlled Intravenous Analgesia with Esketamine for Herpes Zoster Associated with Breakthrough Pain
CONCLUSIONS: PCIA with low-dose esketamine has a significant and long-term effect in the treatment of HZ associated with BTP. The RP was controlled, and the degree and frequency of BTP were significantly reduced after treatment, leading to improved quality of life. There were no serious adverse reactions worthy of clinical promotion.PMID:37192235

HSV-1 infection-induced herpetic neuralgia involves a CCL5/CCR5-mediated inflammation mechanism
This study aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the molecular mechanisms and potential therapeutic targets of HN. We used an HSV-1 infection-induced HN mouse model and screened the differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in the DRG and spinal cord using an RNAseq technique. Moreover, bioinformatics methods were used to figure out the signaling pathways and expression regulation patterns of the DEGs enriched. In addition, quantitative real-time RT-PCR and western blot were carried out to further confirm the expression of DEGs. HSV-1 inoculation in mice resulted in mechanical allodynia, thermal hyperalgesia, and co...

An Analysis of how Herpes Zoster Pain affects Health Related Quality of Life of Placebo subjects from Three Randomized Phase III Studies
DISCUSSION: Moderate and severe HZ pain had a substantial negative impact on all aspects of HRQoL and ADL. This impact was independent of age and immunosuppression.PMID:37166199 | DOI:10.1097/AJP.0000000000001129

Reactivation of Parvovirus B19 Infection: An Uncommon Trigger of Macrophage Activation Syndrome in Adult-Onset Still's Disease
Cureus. 2023 Apr 6;15(4):e37231. doi: 10.7759/cureus.37231. eCollection 2023 Apr.ABSTRACTA 40-year-old woman presented with four weeks of intermittent high-grade fever, cough, and joint pain, and two weeks of a generalized rash. She was found to have adult-onset Still's disease (AOSD) and rapidly developed macrophage activation syndrome (MAS) on the second day of admission. Among infectious etiologies, Epstein-Barr virus and members of the herpes virus family are common triggers of MAS. However, our patient was found to have reactivation/recurrence of parvovirus B19 infection as the cause; this is an uncommon trigger repor...

First Phase 3 TREMFYA ® (guselkumab) Data in Inflammatory Bowel Disease Show Positive Induction Results Among Patients with Moderately to Severely Active Ulcerative Colitis
SPRING HOUSE, PENNSYLVANIA, May 9, 2023 – The Janssen Pharmaceutical Companies of Johnson & Johnson today announced new efficacy and safety data from the Phase 3 QUASAR Induction Study evaluating the investigational use of TREMFYA® (guselkumab) in adults with moderately to severely active ulcerative colitis (UC)a who had an inadequate response or intolerance to conventionalb and/or advanced therapies.1,c The data show statistically significant and clinically meaningful improvements across symptomatic and histo-endoscopic outcome measures.1 Safety data were also consistent with the known safety profile of TREMFYA in ...

A Case of Herpes Zoster Ophthalmicus With Multiple Delayed Ocular Complications
We report a case of HZO with delayed onset of multiple ocular complications. A 72-year-old man developed HZO, blepharitis, iritis, and conjunctivitis in the left eye, which resolved after topical ocular treatment and systemic acyclovir administration. However, six weeks after the first onset of the rash, the patient came to our hospital because of recurrent blepharitis, iritis, scleritis, conjunctivitis, eye pain, ptosis, and blurred vision in the left eye. Best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) in the left eye had decreased to hand motion, and the Goldmann visual field test showed only mild residual peripheral vision on the ...

Disseminated varicella-zoster virus infection in an aplastic anemia- paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria syndrome patient: A case report
CONCLUSION: AA-PNH syndrome patients treated with steroids and immunosuppressants are prone to various infections, considering that herpes virus infection with chickenpox and rash as the initial manifestations is characterized by rapid progress and often accompanied by serious complications. It is more difficult to distinguish it from AA-PNH syndrome with skin bleeding points. If it is not identified in time, it may delay the treatment opportunity, make the condition worse, and cause serious adverse prognosis. Therefore, clinicians need to pay attention to it.PMID:37153152 | PMC:PMC10154583 | DOI:10.3389/fcimb.2023.1163872

Investigating the Therapeutic Effect of Intradermal Acupuncture for Acute Herpes Zoster and Assessing the Feasibility of Infrared Thermography for Early Prediction of Postherpetic Neuralgia: Study Protocol for a Randomized, Sham-Controlled, Clinical Trial
CONCLUSION: Expected results will determine whether IDA can enhance therapeutic effectiveness of pharmacotherapy for acute HZ with acceptable safety profile. In addition, it will verify the accuracy of IRT for early prediction of PHN and as an objective tool of subjective pain for acute HZ.TRIAL REGISTRATION: Clinicaltrials.gov (identification number: NCT05348382; Registered 27 April 2022, https://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT05348382).PMID:37131531 | PMC:PMC10149067 | DOI:10.2147/JPR.S406841
