Investigating the Therapeutic Effect of Intradermal Acupuncture for Acute Herpes Zoster and Assessing the Feasibility of Infrared Thermography for Early Prediction of Postherpetic Neuralgia: Study Protocol for a Randomized, Sham-Controlled, Clinical Trial
CONCLUSION: Expected results will determine whether IDA can enhance therapeutic effectiveness of pharmacotherapy for acute HZ with acceptable safety profile. In addition, it will verify the accuracy of IRT for early prediction of PHN and as an objective tool of subjective pain for acute HZ.TRIAL REGISTRATION: Clinicaltrials.gov (identification number: NCT05348382; Registered 27 April 2022, https://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT05348382).PMID:37131531 | PMC:PMC10149067 | DOI:10.2147/JPR.S406841

Early Diagnosis of Herpes Zoster Neuralgia: A Narrative Review
CONCLUSION: Early diagnosis of HZ neuralgia before eruption can facilitate timely targeted treatment, thereby reducing the incidence of PHN. Proteomic quantitative analysis and validation results can serve as a simple, micro, rapid, and accurate diagnostic method.PMID:37129752 | DOI:10.1007/s40122-023-00510-4

Pharmacological Treatment of Herpes Zoster and Factors Associated with Its Recurrence
Antibiotics (Basel). 2023 Apr 14;12(4):757. doi: 10.3390/antibiotics12040757.ABSTRACTThe burden of herpes zoster disease is significant worldwide, with millions affected and an increasing incidence. Increased age and immunosuppression due to disease or drugs have been related to its recurrence. The aim of this work was to determine the pharmacological management of herpes zoster and identify factors associated with recurrence, representing a longitudinal retrospective study identifying the pharmacological management of patients with herpes zoster and the factors related to the first recurrence using a population database. ...

The Effect of CT-Guided Pulsed Radiofrequency Combined with Ozone Injection on Zoster-Associated Pain: A Retrospective Study
CONCLUSION: CT-guided PRF combined with ozone injection is safe and effective for individuals with ZAP, and its short-term and long-term effects are significant. In a sense, early PRF combined with ozone injection is more effective.PMID:37101519 | PMC:PMC10124561 | DOI:10.2147/JPR.S398578

Disseminated varicella-zoster virus infection in an aplastic anemia- paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria syndrome patient: A case report
ConclusionAA-PNH syndrome patients treated with steroids and immunosuppressants are prone to various infections, considering that herpes virus infection with chickenpox and rash as the initial manifestations is characterized by rapid progress and often accompanied by serious complications. It is more difficult to distinguish it from AA-PNH syndrome with skin bleeding points. If it is not identified in time, it may delay the treatment opportunity, make the condition worse, and cause serious adverse prognosis. Therefore, clinicians need to pay attention to it.

Zoster Sine Herpete: two unusual cases of varicella-zoster reactivation with atypical complaints of acute chest pain and severe headache
BMC Infect Dis. 2023 Apr 18;23(1):239. doi: 10.1186/s12879-023-08093-3.ABSTRACTIn this case report, we describe two unusual presentations of varicella-zoster virus (VZV) reactivation without rash, a condition known as Zoster Sine Herpete (ZSH). In Case 1, a 58-year-old woman presented with severe right-sided chest pain under her breast that radiated to the ipsilateral back. After the initial workup ruled out cardiac and musculoskeletal etiologies, the characteristic dermatomal distribution of pain made us suspect VZV reactivation. A diagnosis of ZSH was made with positive VZV IgG and IgM serologies and symptomatic relief a...

1259 Varicella-zoster virus in actively spreading segmental vitiligo skin
Segmental vitiligo is a unilateral subtype of vitiligo characterized by a cutaneous depigmentation due to melanocyte loss from the epidermis and hair follicle reservoirs. In many cases, this skin depigmentation shares several clinical features and dysfunctions with herpes zoster (HZ). Thus, we searched sign of viral infection and presence of VZV in skin samples from 40 SV, 3 HZ and 10 generalized vitiligo. We observed that nuclear fusion in epidermal cells were statistically associated with recent SV whereas syncytia formation was associated with long-lasting SV.

Inactivated COVID-19 vaccine-related herpes zoster and post-herpetic neuralgia: Three case reports
In this report, we describe three cases of HZ, one of them with post-herpetic neuralgia (PHN) after receiving inactivated COVID-19 vaccine. The first two patients developed HZ 8 and 10 days after vaccination, respectively. When pain could not be controlled with paracetamol and non-steroidal anti-inflammatories, the patients received weak opioid codeine. In addition, the first patient received gabapentin, and the second patient was applied erector spinae plane block. The third patient was admitted 4 months after the diagnosis of HZ and considered to have PHN and pain palliation was provided with tramadol. Although the exact...
