Severe varicella-zoster virus meningoencephalomyelitis coexisting with visceral disseminated varicella-zoster virus infection in a patient with lupus nephritis: A case report
Medicine (Baltimore). 2023 Apr 7;102(14):e33459. doi: 10.1097/MD.0000000000033459.ABSTRACTRATIONALE: Meningoencephalomyelitis and visceral dissemination infection are rare but life-threatening complications of either the primary infection or reactivation of varicella-zoster virus (VZV) in immunocompromised patients. To date, few studies have reported the co-existence of VZV meningoencephalomyelitis and the visceral dissemination of VZV infection.PATIENT CONCERNS: A 23-year-old male was diagnosed with lupus nephritis class III and was being treated with oral prednisone and tacrolimus. The patient exhibited herpes zoster 21-...

Which Minimally Invasive Therapy Is Most Effective For The Treatment Of Postherpetic Neuralgia? An Updated Network Meta-Analysis
Postherpetic neuralgia (PHN) is the most common and annoying complication of herpes zoster, which significantly reduces patients' quality of life. Minimally invasive therapies are commonly needed because drug therapy alone is not always effective, particularly for the elderly and patients with long-term pain. To figure out which interventional therapy is most effective, we first performed a paired meta-analysis, followed by a Bayesian network meta-analysis with direct or indirect comparisons for nine different therapies.

Recurrent Aphthous Stomatitis: An Enigmatic Entity and Sign of Systemic Disease
Indian J Dermatol. 2022 Nov-Dec;67(6):834. doi: 10.4103/ijd.ijd_971_20.ABSTRACTRecurrent aphthous stomatitis (RAS) is a common oral disease characterized by intermittent eruptions of painful oral ulcerations. Hippocrates first described aphthous stomatitis with the Greek word aphthi meaning "to inflame." RAS affects 10-20% of the population with the incidence being the highest among young adults. The peak age of onset is between 10 and 19 years of age. It has three main forms of presentation. The most common being minor RAS, along with the major and herpetiform types. Many local and systemic factors are associated with RAS...

Clinical effect of acupuncture along fascia, meridians, and nerves combined with ultrasound-guided paravertebral nerve block in the treatment of postherpetic neuralgia: a randomized parallel-controlled study
CONCLUSION: These results suggest that a combination of acupuncture along fascia, meridians, and nerves with ultrasound-guided PVB treatment is more effective than ultrasound-guided PVB treatment alone.TRIAL REGISTRATION: Chinese Clinical Trial Registry ChiCTR2200057955.PMID:36994525 | DOI:10.19852/j.cnki.jtcm.2023.02.007

Efficacy of Long-Term Spinal Nerve Posterior Ramus Pulsed Radiofrequency in Treating Subacute Herpetic Neuralgia: A Prospective Randomized Controlled Trial
CONCLUSIONS: Long-term spinal nerve posterior ramus PRF is a more effective treatment strategy for subacute HZN than conventional PRF. It can effectively prevent the occurrence of PHN.PMID:36992589 | DOI:10.31083/j.jin2202047

Next-Generation Sequencing of Cerebrospinal Fluid for the Diagnosis of VZV-Associated Rhombencephalitis
CONCLUSIONS: This study showed that patients with herpes in the skin and mucous membranes at the distribution area of the cranial nerves and with the underlying disease were prone to RE. We suggest that the NGS analysis should be considered and selected based on the level of parameters, such as MRI lesion characteristics.PMID:36992580 | DOI:10.31083/j.jin2202036
