This study aimed to evaluate the short-term effects of temperature, precipitation, air quality, and social attention on children’s viral diarrhea in temperate regions of China by using the distribution lag nonlinear model (DLNM). We found that low temperature affected the increase in children’s viral diarrhea infection for about 1 week, while high temperature and heavy precipitation affected the increase in children’s viral diarrhea infection risk for at least 3 weeks. Forecasting influenza outbreak dynamics in Melbourne from Internet search query surveillance data
ConclusionsOptimal observation models were selected from hundreds of candidates using a novel approach that treats forecasts akin to receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves. We show that the timing of the epidemic peak can be accurately predicted 4–6 weeks in advance, but that the magnitude of the epidemic peak and the overall burden are much harder to predict. We then discuss how the infection and observation models and the filtering process may be refined to improve forecast robustness, thereby improving the utility of these methods for healthcare decision support.

Dengue Baidu Search Index data can improve the prediction of local dengue epidemic: A case study in Guangzhou, China

Management of Patient Flow in Vascular and Interventional Radiology During MERS-CoV Outbreak
In 2015, an outbreak of Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus occurred in Saudi Arabia and necessitated special measures to be implemented to control the spread of the virus. In this article, we will discuss how the outbreak was managed in the vascular and interventional radiology (VIR) suite in a large tertiary care hospital in Saudi Arabia. Various measures were taken to reduce the risk of transmission of infection. Unit-level education played an important role in the care of patients. A hospital-wide educational program was implemented to ensure zero transmission of infection.

Active Case Search for Avian Influenza among Human Contacts of H5N1 Infected Poultry Birds, Plateau State, Nigeria, March, 2017
Background: Avian Influenza infected birds shed influenza viruses in their saliva, mucous and feces. Human infections occur when viruses get into a person's eyes, mouth or when inhaled. Plateau State reported the highest number of infected poultries in Nigeria in the 2017 H5N1 virus resurgence. Efforts to stamp out the outbreak were directed at the control of infected poultry population. However, unlike birds which can be controlled by depopulation, man cannot. Hence, we conducted active case search in the 14 affected farms and nearby healthcare facilities to detect possible bird-to-human transmission.
