Experiences of patients with fibromyalgia at a Finnish Health Centre: A qualitative study
CONCLUSION: In our interviews, a good doctor-patient relationship and continuity of care were necessary, as were the physician's attitude and knowledge of fibromyalgia. Our findings also suggest avoiding repeated or unnecessary rule-out tests and the overdiagnosis of psychiatric disorders is necessary.PMID:35726620 | DOI:10.1080/13814788.2022.2085683

Cost-utility of cognitive behavioural therapy versus U.S. food and drug administration recommended drugs and usual care in the treatment of patients with fibromyalgia: an economic evaluation alongside a 6-month randomised controlled trial
Conclusions: Due to lower costs, CBT is the most cost-effective treatment for adult FM patients. Implementation in routine medical care would require policymakers to develop more widespread public access to trained and experienced therapists in group-based forms of CBT.Trial registrationCurrent Controlled Trials ISRCTN10804772. Medically unexplained conditions considered by patients in general practice
Conclusion. Patients frequently considered that they may suffer from UCs. The likelihood of such concerns strongly increased with an increasing symptom load and with the number of life stressors with negative impact on present health. Hence, the number of symptoms may be a strong indicator of whether patients consider their symptoms part of such often controversial multisymptom conditions.

Identifying patients with chronic widespread pain in primary care
Abstract: Chronic widespread pain (CWP) is common in the general population. It is unclear how people reporting this problem present in primary care; they may regularly consult for regional pains without being recognized as having a generalized condition. Our objectives were to determine the prevalence of people consulting in primary care for musculoskeletal conditions in different body regions on different occasions (recurrent regional pain consultation), the proportion with diagnosed generalized pain and survey-reported widespread pain, and if they have features characteristic of CWP. Phase 1 used electronic records from...

Medically unexplained symptoms' care in internal medicine: A paradigm of doctor-patient relationship in situation of uncertainty.
Authors: Ranque B, Nardon O Abstract Medically unexplained symptoms (MUS) are extremely common in general practice as in all medical specialties, but their designation is not unambiguous and the approaches to take care of the patients differ from conventional therapeutic approaches. The difficulty is not to confirm the diagnosis, which is rapidly obvious with some experience, but to establish a genuinely human therapeutic relationship, without any technical help, which pushes the doctor to the edge of his empathy and communication skills. The discomfort or even distress regularly encountered by physicians in front ...
