Chinese Veterinary Medicine B307 Promotes Cardiac Performance and Skeletal Muscle Contraction via Enhancing Intracellular Calcium Levels and Neural Electrical Activity in Animal and Cell Models.
Authors: Lien CY, Lu CW, Hsu CH, Chuang TY, Su LY, Wu WJ, Jheng YS, Lee MC, Wu CH Abstract The study mainly investigated the effects of Chinese veterinary medicine B307 in cardiac and motor functions in animal models of pigeons and mice. Related cellular mechanisms were also studied in the neuroblastoma cell model of SH-SY5Y. Cardiac functions of pigeons and mice were examined by using moorFLPI Laser color Doppler imager and M-mode echocardiography, and motor functions were examined by using muscle electrical stimulation and force recording in the isolated breast muscle. Intracellular calcium levels and electrical ...

Precision therapy for a medically actionable ATP1A3 variant from a genomic medicine program in an underserved population
ConclusionIn retrospect, his symptomatology matches the known medical conditions associated with theATP1A3 gene namely Alternating Hemiplegia of Childhood 2 (AHC), a rare autosomal dominant disorder with an incidence of 1 in one million. His single nucleotide variant, (c.2401G>A, p.D801N), is predicted to be damaging. The specific amino acid change p.D801N has been previously reported in ClinVar along with the allelic variant p.D801Y and both are considered pathogenic. The identification of this variant altered medical management for this patient as he was started on a calcium antagonist and has reported no further hemi...

Yokukansan, a Kampo medicine, prevents the development of morphine tolerance through the inhibition of spinal glial cell activation in rats
Conclusion These results suggest that the pre-administration of YKS attenuates the development of antinociceptive morphine tolerance, and the suppression of spinal glial cell activation may be one mechanism underlying this phenomenon.

The Use of Complementary and Alternative Medicine Among Dialysis Patients.
Conclusions • The study found a lower prevalence of CAM consumption in dialysis patients than had been found in other studies of the general population. Still, the unawareness of the harm and potential interactions and the lack of data sharing between the patients and caregivers might have had disastrous consequences. Therefore, caregivers need to inquire of their patients specifically about their use of CAM, especially for populations with chronic diseases, let alone patients undergoing dialysis. Uncovering Synergistic Mechanism of Chinese Herbal Medicine in the Treatment of Atrial Fibrillation with Obstructive Sleep Apnea Hypopnea Syndrome by Network Pharmacology.
This study applied network pharmacology to identify 94 active components in the six TCM liver-regulating herbs and 182 corresponding targets from several databases and comprehensive literature studies, as well as retrieved AF combined with OSAHS-related targets. Cytoscape software was adopted to construct the component-component target network and component-putative target-AF combined with OSAHS target network. Then, we obtained 38 putative therapeutic targets against AF combined with OSAHS. After the production of a putative therapeutic target interaction network, topological analysis was adopted to determine the core tar...
